Fuzz suggestions

Post by sylnau »

What kind of fuzz would be good with chords, near an overdrive but with lots of characters (not an open diodes type... kind of grrrr or buzzzzz sounding) with some sustain and lots of low ends. I have that sound in my head, but don’t know what kind of fuzz to look for.

I tried Muff and Fuzzface and that's not what I'm looking for.

Did you try a good germanium fuzz face?
The Sam Ash/Astrotone type fuzz is good for that kind of thing, almost an overdrive. Ronsound and Analogman both do good clones.
Vintage Technologies/Bad Cat Orange Sunshine is also a good one.
Other than that, I'd talk to John Lyons and see what he can build for you.

Germanium Fuzz Face... I have the Plum Crazy FX Fuzzy Lady (I like it a lot... but that's not the sound I'm looking for)
John Lyons have the Squarewave Deluxe that's almost what I'm looking for in some seeting.
Thanks... I'll Youtube your recommendation tonight.

I want more characters not an overdrive... maybe I should also check Buzzaround?

Have you checked out OD's that go into Fuzz territory? I have a Mountainking Ruckus that I love dearly and it does have low end, character and gnarlyness.

Here's a crappy video I did:

SS/BS FuckOD might be another contestant.

This is a demo of the Basic Audio Squarewave Deluxe: http://www.basicaudio.net/Squarewave-deluxe.mp3
The sound that interest me is around there:

The rest of this demo sound similar to my vintage overdrive (Liquid Gain Hydra).

A fuzz with lots of texture... I don't have any bands or songs in mind at the moment.

Buzzaround's a lot like a muff, pretty soupy high gain.
Very cool, but doesn't sound like that's what you want.

checked out Red Llama clones? I have one called the Ben Adrian Bunnydrive that is much like what you describe. Can go from boost to fuzzy and doesn't fall into the trap of being a "pretty" OD. Also, RAT.
Maybe partying will help.
