Metal guitar picks

Anyone tried any? I'm looking at the Ice Pix. There kinda pricey but could be cool. And not pricey like the TGP picks.

What are the differences in sound? I've used pennies and nickels and liked the sound but not the form. This might remedy this...

I tried a couple of Ice Pix a while back. I didn't like them because the edges were too sharp and they don't flex much. They definitely sound a bit more trebly in a weird way (I stopped using and then probably lost them at least 2 years ago so I can't give much of a description... ), and they do sound kinda like coins, at least the fatter one I had did. If you already like playing with coins give them a go, since the not flexing won't bother you and they do sound cool.

i have a regular flat copper pick somewhere (or i lost it) and i liked it a lot.

if you like a lot of give to your picks, they might not be for you, but there is 0 string noise, and a real nice chimy quality to the sound.

I've compared it to horn, bone, and regular plastic and its a difference, for sure.

people underrate the importance of a pick, at least in a clean setting.

i've used some steel tipped picks, cant remember what brand, really liked them till about 2 weeks later, when i noticed my strings where considerably thinner where i pick

Yea, I'll probably pick up that variety pack. I still like those Dunlop nylons for fast strums. I'll probably just use the ice pix for big arp picking, and string scratchy drone stuff.

yeah, they do that too.

thats why i use a horn pick instead.

if you don't want wear, use a copper pick because they're softer than what the strings are made of.

A friend of mine made me a brass pick. It's awful.

Not really, just has a very present attack and it very bright. I couldn't hang with it.

It's neat though, I like it more with acoustic, but with electric it was just tooo BWAAAAAAGHHHH.

I like Ice Pix. I don't use them anymore, but they're cool.

The brass ones are cool on bass. There's NO flex, of course. But they do sound really cool. About like you'd imagine plugging a bass string with a thick, brass pick. If you play slow, it's not as bright as a regular pick. Just a punchy low end. Pretty neat. If you play fast, you'll get the clank of the pick hitting the strings.

The copper flex are good all-around picks. But they'll scratch your guitar up, and you can hear them scratch against the strings as you play. I found they actually don't sound all that much different from celluloid picks, realistically, so I stopped using the coppers. I find one every once in a while and use 'em for fun. I'd say they're louder and a bit brighter, but the string scratch got on my nerves. And they'll scratch your guitar. Didn't notice them hurting the strings, though.

Steel sucks all around. All the downsides of the other ones, and not much of a redeeming quality.

They used to sell a variety pack. You know, if you're curious enough. :shrug:

I just keep delrin (tortex) and celluloid picks around now. Those two basically cover everything.

I've got the one from Satriani signature picks pack it's not easy to get metal picks around here so this was my chance...

it sounds... well it has a nice attack, sounds kinda beefy, but i'm actually afraid because it seems to ruin string pretty badly...

I never had any problems with strings getting damaged, but I scratched the shit out of the guitar I was using at the time, which is the main reason I'd never use them again.

I was interested in getting a better attack from my pick - without trashing my guitar - so I made these

It's two regular guage celluloid picks hot glued together, but first of all with a tiny dab of hot glue near the tip of one, so they're always slightly seperated. Gives a 'pinched harmonics' trebly overtone to all notes. I love it - but they don't bend much.

the niglo 2 soloist. looks sweet. I kinda want to try one.
