Hitting something with the same force at the same point will sound the same regardless of how high the starting point is. It is easier to hit with more force from higher up because gravity is on your side, and because you have greater distance to build up speed. However this also means that you can make relatively fewer hits, and that what you are playing will as a matter of course be simpler because this style makes changing direction at speed more difficult. More fact.

To me, his movements are just so over-gesticulated. And I like drummers that hit hard too. But you can hit drums hard without looking like you're a lumberjack chopping wood.
I apologize for not reading every post but are we making a distinction between rap and hip hop: For example someone burned me the Lupe Fiasco album: Lyrically insane btw and I pointed out that I didn't love the style, and was reminded that I don't like hip hop, only rap. I didn't know that their was a major distinction but I guess anything with a hook is hip hop???? No clue and not trying to start a debate: To answer the question: I would like hip hop if everyone sounded like the streets, cyprus hill (who I just saw walking through the Salt lake airport- and squeezed that in here to sound important) or 90's angry cop hating rap.

Also the inefficiency of his playing is a ridiculous topic of discussion. Next thing I know you all are going to be telling me that playing on a drum kit that spins upside-down is unnecessary.
