I never thought of him as someone with awesome tone, just someone who ruined Pink Floyd.

Yikes. I disagree with you so much, I think I sprained something. Piper is cool and all, but to me, it's a scatter-brained mess compared to Meddle through Animals.

hmmm interestingly enough saucerful of secrets is my favorite pink floyd record which had both gilmour and barrett on it!

having been a HUGE pink floyd fan from elementary school until high school, i can equally appreciate both incarnations. personally, i never thought his guitar sound was THAT good, but gilmour ruining pink floyd? nah. i always dug them more for their arrangements, production and vocal harmonies.

Yeah, I like a couple tracks on Saucerful. And I guess I agree that his tone is not like the God tone or anything. It's his playing more than his tone that gets me. Every fucking bend is perfectly pitched. And his singing voice is simply amazing. Dave and Rick's harmonies are great. Anytime Roger tried to sing .... :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:

I love stuff post Syd, however, when Waters left the direction was dumb. I even like the Wall but hate the two Gilmour songs sooo much. His singing and harmonies are definitely better than Rogers'.

I have an 8 track of Piper/Saucer that I hold dear though.

I'll actually agree with you that the post-Water stuff was meh. But, actually I'm not huge on any Roger's own stuff, and a decent portion of the Wall and basically all of Final Cut (i.e. the "everyone just shut up and did exactly what Roger told them to do" era). So I'd say that Roger and Dave both needed each other to prevent themselves from making crap.
