Noob...Which one first?

Post by Black335 »

Certainly NOT which one!
Hi guys, I've been lurking around here and finnally joined up...
So here's my problem...I want everything  ...but specifically an AbSynth and an Algal Bloom
I've been using a Fuzzfactory as my fuzz and I'm wondering which would be the better choice to augment what that can do
ya know, till I can get the other one
could you stop making them so freaking beautiful, please...
question 2...who's idea was the pink w/polka dots and a squirrel? haha :thumb:
Thanx!

welcome!
i would say algal first.
there is a thread about the differences, but especially this statement sums it up for me: viewtopic.php?f=142&t=15691#p217223
probably decide on this. i have also both - but i bought them at the same time.

I agree completely. I also own both, but started with the Algal Bloom and ordered and AB Synth 5k days after it arrived. They really are two different beasts and the Algal is more straightforward and useable, imo. That's not to say the Synth won't come in handy, amazing example of how cool oscillation (even better, controllable oscillation) can be, but I think the Algal is the best recommendation for anyone looking to pick up their first Fuzzhugger.

My other advice is buy a larger board because hanging around ILF will definitely lead you to owning more awesome fuzz pedals than you ever thought necessary, it's a sickness that can't be avoided!

These dudes speak the truth. I just got an Algal Bloom today actually. VERY happy with it. And yep, super useable, but also has that very unique Fuzzhugger voicing (this weird kinda silicon robot sizzle, yet still very very organic. Hard to describe.) Definitely impressed with the range of tones in this pedal. Great stuff.

And YES - you're going to need a bigger board. Or three bigger boards.

I think You pick ANY of the crazy mofo oscillators the first - they do the cray intergalactic transmission blips and drones AND they make a great std fuzz monster sound. :thumb:

THEN, like my friend Kosta here said, then You start saving for a bigger board, then the second. And perhaps, the third, too.

well since I mainly play in a blues/rock kinda band everthing doesn't have to go with me...but I do love the oppourtunity to make people wince in terror! I have no desire to be a "hat and a strat" or "fat guy in a bowling shirt" blues player...so a little strange is def. in order.

(ps-thats not me btw... )
will the Algal Bloom and the Fuzzfactory cover similar territories though?
unfortunately NOT being a H&S blues guy keeps the dough coming in low...
Absynth ( besides refering to my favorite activity next to makin' rude noizes "spankin the plank" during Going down Slow) seems to be more different than the AB? or am I misteaken? besides being a bad speller...Thank guyz-I think I'm gonna like it here :joy:

Algal Bloom can do some tasty OD break down if You're not after a massive loads of fuzz, which are also very doable with it. 70's progressive heavy rock? Sure. Downtuned stoner /doom tones? Fuck yeah.

But AB-Synth has even more hair in its chest - pun intended - even with gain at low settings, and everything past 12 o'clock may well seem pure overkill, like killing roaches with a fucking nuclear device. The more You ask from the gain knob, the more it gives. And the gain with seemingly absurd amount of massive fuzz also comes to use when You're dialing the oscillation which is why AB-Synth is a royal gem among the oscillating fuzzes.

Roll the guitar/bass vol pot back and You can do synth bass. Or straight out wall of fat oscillating synth drone. Psychedelic UFo blips with a bit knob tweaking. Retarded troll babies crying in the crib by rolling vol back and forth before delay. Lot's of insanity available from playing with this baby.

Bassus, I like how you double-posted but added more emoticons the second time. You're like George Lucas.
