rc2 or dl4?

Post by ifeellikeatourist »

Okay, so I have a Boss rc2 loop station (the one that's just regular boss pedal size, but still has most of the features of the larger rc20xl), and I'm happy with it, but I've been looking at the line 6 dl4 lately, because I see a lot of people using that. As a looper, the dl4 seems to possibly have fewer features, but it has more stomp switches, so I think it would be more user-friendly when looping live. The dl4 also has more options in terms of delay and stuff, which could be useful when not using it as a looper. Still, I think that the rc2 has some features that the dl4 doesn't, and the dl4 is more expensive. Anyway, in a hypothetical world where there both pedals cost the same, which would you take? Should I trade in my rc2 for a dl4? I'm mainly looking for looping capabilities as I already have a decent delay.

Personally, I'd stick with the RC2, if only because I'm always hearing about the DL4 breaking on people. I've no experience of it myself as I use a Headrush for looping.

A lot of people have been raving about the EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai, have you checked that out?

I've considered it, because of its price and because it offers delay sounds as well as looping options, but I haven't gotten to try one yet. I know that the rc-2 probably has a lot more features than any other looper in this price range, but I feel like some of these other pedals might be easier to use as well as offering other functions besides just looping.

The benefit of the dl4 is having all the presets available with those stomp switches. Very useful live if you like switching settings.

The delays, while modeled, sound pretty good.

What delay are you currently using?

Careful with the DL4, they have been known to break down a lot.

get a digitech time bender!!!!

I've had a dl4 and liked it... I've heard that The SMMH by ehx is awesome though. I've never had any quality issues with the dl4. Although I'm not a heavy footer to my pedals. There is a guy on HC who will replace your ftswitchs with higher quality ones for $30ish. Could be worth it. I just wish the DL4 had longer looping times. Overall it's extremely useful and user friendly in lie situations.

The headrush I think you switch modes from delay to looper by pushing both buttons... Which is cool!

Do you have latency issues with your RC2? And can you play loops in reverse? I've thought about those...

i love the DL4...

i had one for about 4 years until the switching stopped working on two switches. i tried fixing it to no avail and jimmy-rigged it to last another 6 months. :haha: not a bad life span considering how many times you switch the pedal. i use it pretty much only for looping and it's amazing at that task; the delays sound pretty good, but i have better sounding ones. i've since bought 2 more DL4's :whateva: been using them both for about 8 months with no problems whatsoever...

I love my smmh, but ya have to love tweaking knobs.

Dl4 is for having 4 stomps to control your delay...nothing else comes close for ease of use. Upgrade the switches if you are worried about reliability.

Or just by an m13 and link 4 dl4's + the looper together. Oh yea.
