It's kind of bullshit that this thread died.

Been really into Tim Berne and related projects, like Miniature, lately. Also, the Maneris.

If anyone is aware of some Boston/Cambridge based amateur jazz let me know. Looking for new acts to book.

Needs moar contemporary shitz
Kneebody
Claudia Quintet
Matthew Shipp
Led Bib
Roku
Ben Monder
The Respect Sextet
Phil Sargent
Hiromi Uehara
Positive Catastrophy
The Flat Earth Society
Rashanim
one thing that has ALWAYS bugged me about most/all jazz threads in any forum i've been on, is that its ALWAYS the classics, always the same names over and over and over again, and i sorta grew up on half of those guys, which is essentially hearing the other half due to the nature of how jazz progressed from the 40's up to the 60's. the whole two decades were largely built on throwing ideas off of eachother, and while thats great in theory, it also lead to a LOT of repetition between the gems. take even Miles for instance. not only did he not REALLY start making interesting music until the Columbia Years (excluding Birth of the Cool which wasn't released until later anyways), and once he went, it was pretty much samey until Filles de Kilamonjaro. and i always thought the idea that jazz as it exists in the public conciousness is largely limited to swing and dixieland (which could arguably be their own camp) or bebop, and jokes about free jazz and smooth jazz is extremely limiting, because it extends to so many fans of the genre as well.
