As some of you might have seen in the GAS thread, I finally bought a guitar. It's a 1998 Les Paul Special in Robin Hood Green (my name for it, not Gibson's). It has Lollar P-90's installed and was recently set up and plek'd. While I didn't get to play it beforehand (it's being shipped from Seattle), the Les Paul Special was the guitar I fell in love with and inspired me to create this thread in the first place. I think I got a good deal on it (found it on TGP), so I'm really excited! I'll give a report when I have it in hand. These are the sellers pictures, by the way.

i'm going with high-end hearing loss. though Pete played Strats and Rickenbackers early on with the Who.

Hmm interesting. I do remember reading that there was a brief stint in the nineties that he claimed he was giving up playing electric altogether due to hearing loss, but then he went back because he just couldn't stop rocking. I'll just never be able to think of him as a strats guy.

I saw this picture of Hendrix, all he used was a wah.... And not even the Jim Dunlop Jimi Hedrix wah, just some old thing.....
Jimi didn't realise the horrible tone suck we had to listen to every time he used that wah.

Thanks guys, I'm really excited to get it.

I forgot to mention that I played the Tribute Les Paul and SG this weekend. I was in NYC and went into Sam Ash to check things out and noticed them on the wall. I wasn't overly impressed with the Les Paul. It sounded okay but felt really nice. It probably needed some tweaks to the pickup height. The SG was the opposite. It sounded amazing but the frets were hanging WAY over the edge of the fingerboard. It was on all the frets, not just one or two, so I'm thinking maybe it needed some time in a room with a humidifier. But it had some great snarl to it with a little gain on the amp. I would definitely recommend the SG if 1) you can play it first to check for playability issues or 2) order from a place you know will set it up well and take care of those issues.

Yarrrrrrrr. I'm sorry I missed this thread a while back.

I just learned last week that I don't think I can play anything but P90s anymore. Started in 2000 when I bought my Epiphone Casino and continues now (since 2007) with my Gibson Les Paul Faded Special:

I just went through some long drama with an American Standard Telecaster, only to finally get it and, welp, I knew it wasn't going to sound like my Gibson, and that was the point... but I just couldn't make it work without P90s. Especially with fuzz.

I'd also thought about doing a really special Warmoth build which I've mentioned in the "Show Me Your Weenis/Warmoth" thread, but I'm going to try a simpler project first, in which I'll be taking a Squier Tele Custom II (the one with P90s) and putting a Squier CV Tele Custom neck on it... mostly for the rosewood fretboard. Probably going to sand the damn thing and make it totally white, with a white pickguard, and white P90 covers. Should be alright!

I don't have anything to record and I'm not a very good guitarist (can't play any solo...) but I might try to play some chords filmed by my Iphone straight into my Vox with a clean sound and with the White Light for some crunchy stuff if you're still interested ! ;)

Here is a video of my band live where you can hear it (a little ashamed to show that...). I was playing through an AC30 and was using a SD1 for crunch tones and a treble boost for riffs.

Cheers :)

I didn't know that band but recently we turned more into indie (playing with Wavves kinda started the thing).

Anyway I'll try to record something more proper in the coming weeks :thumb:
