Re: May I See Your Warmoth Creations, Please?
Simple question:
I love my Les Paul Faded Special Double Cutaway with P-90s. It's my favourite sounding guitar, and I learned the other day (though I already knew, for the most part) that I don't think I can play a guitar without P-90s. It's made entirely out of mahogany (neck and body).
My favourite guitar shape and style and look is the Telecaster, but the stock sound doesn't do it for me. So I'm planning on doing this Warmoth with a mahogany neck and body, with a most likely Lollar P-90 in the neck and a Tele-bridge-shaped P-90 in the bridge.
I don't see any reason why these two would sound radically different, do you? I know they won't sound EXACTLY the same, but it's a risky project.

Re: May I See Your Warmoth Creations, Please?
you should be able to find a Tele-esque guitar with P90s in it to check out. Fender has a couple of models, or did recently.
though it's obviously going to be similar, there is going to be a degree of difference, possibly more than you or i may anticipate...the scale length is different = different string tension, the bridge and its mounting are different and so is the way the strings are secured to the body, and obviously one has a set neck and the other a bolt-on. all of these will affect tone and resonance...consider e.g. the difference between the sound of a LP Special with P90s and the sound of an SG with P90s, where the only major differences are the size and weight of the body and the precise position of the PUs. i'd expect a mahogany Tele with P90s to have a really bark-y pick attack compared to the LPS, to sustain somewhat less, and to be brighter and less rounded in the mids. and to weigh about a quarter of a ton. at least you won't have to worry about neck dive...that sucker will be pointing at the ceiling like you're Bill Wyman LOL.

Re: May I See Your Warmoth Creations, Please?
Thanks... that's exactly the kind of input I wanted. I was actually planning on doing a Warmoth conversion neck, so it would be a Tele neck, but 24.75", same as my Gibson.
I can't make up my mind whether or not I'm just being a dork wanting a Tele-looking body that sounds pretty much just like my Gibson or not. On paper, it's my "dream guitar". In reality... I'm not so sure I would be pleased with it. A lot of guitars that I thought I would like haven't turned out too well for me... My favourite guitars have been my Korean Epiphone Casino and my Les Paul Faded Special... both kinda bottom of the line (er, well, the Casino is probably a top of the line Epi, while the LP Faded Special is an unfinished $849 Gibson)... I bought this Gibson blind from Woodwind/Brasswind because they were the last place that had them before they were discontinued... it happened to work out (although the finish is a LITTLE wonky [I'm totally used to it, now], and some of the knobs are weird). I do think that it has only improved over time, though.
WELP.

Sounds like a fun project, I love a heavy mahogany guitar, it just feels right.
Maybe keep a regular tele bridge and p90 neck just for variety?

Re: May I See Your Warmoth Creations, Please?
well, since your favorites both have P90s i'd say there's a pretty good chance you'll be OK with it. if not you can always put other PUs in a P90 sized rout with a little fiddling. i would love to build a 24.75 Tele...i loves me some Tele but i prefer the shorter scale. a 24.75 Esquire would probably be tits.

Re: May I See Your Warmoth Creations, Please?
I just built a mustang recently. I posted it up in the "show your guitar thread", but I guess I can show it off again!

It's called The Antler. The body is swamp ash, the neck is maple, with an ebony fretboard. All the wood is from Warmoth, they smooth the heel of mustangs, and add a stomach thing. The neck is thier "boat-cut" one or whatever. It's like a fucking baseball bat and I love it
. I painted it yellow on the body and neck and headstock, with a matte satin finish, with paint from ReRanch. I didn't seal the grain (cause I'm lazy and crazy) so the texture of the grain is very apparent. I really like it. I drew the headstock logo on myself, as well as the design on the pickguard. The p'ups are GFS lipstick pick ups, with a 4.9k in the bridge, and an 8k in the neck. Everything is wired up standard. I love it!
Building it was so much fun. It cost only a little less than buying a guitar outright would have, but I feel more confident with the guitar than I have with any other.

I just put this sweet adventure time sticker on it a few days ago.
So fucking build yer own!

Very nice, how does that neck pickup work? Can you only switch it along with the bridge or does it work ok on its own in that position?![]()
thankies.
Cream T made the pickup.....it's actually 3 coils working as a single pickup. the bridge pup is split between the D & G...the 3rd coils is under the GBE strings. the first coil under the EAD is always on so it's always tight on the lows....the other 2 are switchable with different caps in diff positions so the tone is smoother on the top with honky and skinny options.
people are prolly tired of me talking about this guitar at this point , as it come up ever so often. but it is my babydoll...and i love the bitch.

dubkitty covered everything very well. remember that the tele bridge is a huge part of what makes a tele sound like a tele, so changing that to a TOM or LP Jr style wrap around would put you closer in the LP ballpark.
i've got a cambered mahogany tele with a maple top, mahogany neck, ebony fretboard, true gibson scale, single humbucker with a non tele fixed bridge. however it does not have a set neck.
it does sound very gibson-y for sure.
i find conversion necks very uncomfortable though....it's just me but there is a odd difference and you should try one before you order it that way.
doesn't warmoth do gibson scale?
anyway...good luck.....sounds like fun..

You don't have to love me. I've never even heard of that band.
It's named antler because I like antlers. Mainly jackalopes....

can you tell me more about it?
