So the Tremolessence boxes, pots, knobs, all shipped in 3 packages from Oklahoma. One package has arrived, the finished boxes. The other two boxes with all the goodies to actually build the pedals, are still in flippin customs! Since the 21st!

It really burns me up.. it's not like we haven't received 30 packages from this company in the last few years, and it's just common electronics parts, it's so frustrating that they'd be held up like this. And that's the fast level of shipping, it's brutal! All customs does is slow down small business with pointless bureaucracy, keeping our borders safe from potentiometers and knobs, and you can't even complain to those guys if you want to.

I betcha they'll leave customs tomorrow then take one more day to cross the country, then we'll get them, and then I'll be making them like a madman. On Wednesday or Thursday! *primal scream at Canada customs*

Haha, customs definitely blows! I shipped a pedal to an eBay customer in Canada and they held it for 17 days before it was back en route to the guy. He was flippin' out the whole time too because the only info I could get was that it's "with Customs", no est delivery or anything like that.

sure thing cause there is nothing worse than customs when you have to do alot business with other countrys!
Its slowing shipping down for 1 or 2 weeks, in germany you have to drive to customs to pick your stuff up, wait there for like an hour, tell them why and where you got that and then you have to pay custom tax of around 22% on top for fucking NOTHING! Seriously nobody can tell me my 40 bucks i pay customs on a standard pedal will do anything more than financing the guys working at customs!

they should take care about guys smugeling elephants and dolphins or whatever and not small businesses or pedal nerds...

its just a joke...

Just checked the tracking page for the millionth time.. no update, still in customs.

It's funny, (well not really funny but you know) I had the choice of having this stuff shipped by UPS but I declined that since UPS has such expensive brokerage/duties fees, it would add ~$300 to the total cost of the stuff. But it all would have been here the week before last. I opted for USPS/Canada Post to save the brokerage/duties but it's taken two extra weeks... they get you either way, there's no win with shipping! *Charleton Heston Planet of the Apes desperation breakdown floor pounding*

Ok I've got a big update about these packages, oh man, what an experience this has been!

Yesterday in the mail we got two letters from the Canada Border Services Agency, fancy name for customs. The letter tells us we need to submit special import documents and submit payment for the taxes on the packages since they each have a declared value over $1600. (Never heard of this rule before!)

So today we head to the local CSBA office, about 45 minutes away at the international airport. 2 hours later the paperwork is done, the taxes are paid, and the boxes will now be released from customs in Ontario. Good grief what a rigmarole!

So what did we learn? If a package is over $1600 and sent though the post customs will hold it hostage until you pay the taxes and do the paperwork. They'll only notify you about the package with a letter in the mail, which takes about 8 days. These boxes were shipped on April 11 and we'll be lucky to get them next Tuesday, May 10.

Alternatively, you have UPS or FedEx ship the packages and they handle the customs paperwork for you. But they charge you a small fortune for it.. on a $5000 shipment the brokerage/duties will be over $300. And that's not counting the taxes!

So they get you either way, they either take forever and only charge you tax (USPS/Canada Post) or they get you the box fast but charge you a fortune in brokerage fees (UPS or FedEx).

But at least the boxes are back en route and will arrive next week (I'm very sure!) and then I'll make Trem pedals like crazy.

CCI (Canada Customs Invoices) are always needed for goods valued over 1600$ canadian... what a headache. the fees get worse if the stuff isn't Made in the USA and falls outside of NAFTA...

at least now anyone can fill out a D1-4-1
