Witch Fuzz for this guitar sound?
Any suggestion for this guitar sound (the rhythm guitar)?
Tom Waits - Cold Water:

I hear some Maestro Fz-1 grit to it... but not sure... it sound fatter than a Maestro. Any idea?

Definitely tweed sounding, the tones on that song/album are all about cranked old amps. Maybe some of the Lumpy's Tone Shop stuff or anything that aims to sound like a blowing up tweed.
Some tonebenders might work too, but I don't know much about them.
I can get similar tones out of my TAFM, but that's not really its main flavour so if all you're looking for is this, not a good choice. Good to see Tom Waits love.

My amp (Bogner Duende) can sound similar to a tweed on chanel A... but I cannot crank it at home (small 2 1/2 appartment).
Maybe a Lovepedal Les Lius or the Catalinbread Formula 5 would work.
He is probably using a Telecaster (single coil).
Thanks!!
Yeah, the solo is

Do those old little Supro amps get you into that territory when cranked? Seems not unlikely that Ribot / Waits would have one laying around. Sounds like a tiny bit of octave honk in there too though (to my ears at least.) Man, Ribot's solo kills on this!

Yeah... I notice that octave honk too... so probably not a Tweed. Remind me more of a Maestro varyant (Basic Audio Gnarly type)? I'm not sure.

Re: Witch Fuzz for this guitar sound?
I now think the Gnarly would be too agressive.
I'm close using the drive of my amp + my Octron.
So I guess Les Lius or Formula 5 would be best for bedroom volume + a bit of octave down.
