Places in Canada/USA to have a guitar built to your specs...

Post by Ryan »

Any recommendations for shops in Canada or the States where you can give them the specs of a guitar you want and they'll whip it up for you? I want to get a Jazzmaster made for me and I want to get to choose the colours etc...

Danche Guitars in Oak Park Ill her's a link.
http://www.dancheguitars.com/
He primarily builds classical and jazz guitars but he's also built strat type guitars, they are all amazing. You can take a class with him where he will teach you how to hand make a guitar, it costs $3,000 but you get to custom build your own guitar.

Might be overkill, though...

Liberatore, they where building guitar and bass for Voivod.

And I'm not sure, but maybe Demerse is doing custom work:

I never tried any of them.

I've heard good things about Capsule Music in Toronto, also says they share a new shop in Kitchener/Waterloo (West?). Anyway, head to the retail section of the link and look at guitar stock, they have a couple Capsule JMs for sale but I think they'll do custom specs/requests, made to order???

Dennis Fano makes some amazing JM style guitars too, not sure on price or custom options, but I played one recently and it was absolutely top notch!

Elliott guitars look nice too.

But if you have it build in the US, it will probably cost you a lot in custom fee. :(

I would like to have one of those or the Fano Jazzmaster type of guitar.

Let us know about your devloppement and specs... I like custom guitar (wish I have one).

User "Superlead" on TGP will spec out, paint, relic (or not relic) any Fender style guitar for $999. All the parts are USAG (?) licensed, etc. I've exchanged a few PMs with him and is super helpful/responsive. Some day I will pull the trigger on a Superlead Tele. I've seen him do JMs. Also check over at Offsetguitars.com. You might get some play there as well.

Are you on OSG bud? I lurk over there sometimes and they seem like pretty cool dudes who know how to build a jazzy. Plus, I bet you could work out a trade!
And there's probably a couple resident ILFers who could whip up something for you.

Thanks for all the tips, guys, you sure know lots of cool places to have guitars built! The OSG tips are great, I wasn't familiar with that place at all.

I went with Guitar Mill/Mario Martin Guitars.. he's going to make me a cool black Jazzmaster. I want one that looks like the black Japanese hollow body JM but I don't want a hollow body. I wouldn't normally be so picky but I'm turning 35 next week so I get a special treat
