i think i wanna add a p90 to the middle position on this tele. i suppose if i did that id add a 5-way switch.
supposedly the current pups are SD hot/cold rails (what the dude told me when i bought it neway ). any advice on which p90's i should check out?
this would be my first real upgrade to a guitar, so looking for a little direction & maybe a wiring diagram for 3 pups & a 5-way switch. ive got a lil diy fx pedal experience (ALL FUZZ OF COURSE), & access to routers & such. so i dont really foresee a problem, just not sure which pup to buy.
My guess would be that you'd have to wire it like this http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wi ... h_1v_1t_5w can't help on the actualy p-90 to chose though, but it'd help people help you with the way to wire it up if you told us weather those mini-humbuckers have four or two wires.
if it was me I would rip that fucker right out and make it a p90 neck pickup. pickup placement is just as important as pickup selection. and you can keep your stock switch. I dont really like mini HB or stacked or whatever. I would throw a hot noiseless in the bridge too. vintage white all around.
I find I don't like pickups much in that middle/in between position. Gets in the way of my picking.
If you do go with a P90 check out Wolfetone. I have one in the bridge of one of my guitars and it is great. Bite, clarity, punch. It is pretty much everything I like in a pickup.
i have thought about just switching out the neck pup for a p90, but i like its current set-up. i was just thinking adding a p90 would add to its versatility. i also figured if i wasnt happy i could get a new pick guard to cover the middle hole.
thanks for all the other thoughts & suggestions. ill look into some of those brands mentioned.
