Re: Death By Audio love?
I got my Octave Clang of Ebay from DBA as a Blemmy for $160.00. There was a minor scratch on the bottom that is covered withe velcro. Since then I also acquired the Seppeku Octave Drone much cheaper and I kinda like it better. They are very similar. I am going to play them back to back right now.
I don't really understand why DBA pedals are so expensive when companies like Seppuku, Devi Ever, Fuzzhugger, Earthquaker, SSBS and Co-pilot charge much less and have much more versatility. Yeah the DBA stuff is cool but there are so many one off company's really pushing the limits right now. The moth crusher and Probability of a Fax come to mind.

...and then my mind split open.

Had an Interstellar Overdriver Supreme twice. Liked both but have since sold both.

What is the Armageddon? I remember seeing a video of him saying it's tonebender but it looks like there is more to it.

the armageddon is a strange pedal that obviously not many people know about.
what is it?
well its Olivers take on "the perfect fuzz"
its a modified bug muff circuit ( i think the fuzz portion ) on one side then a filter on the other side with two options 1.) for bass, treble, and mid and 2.) for different frequencies to get a fizzy to jumbo fuzz sound.
in addition theres a switch called "sub" . this is an option that when flipped, and used on bass, it draws out additional frequencies that are audible when a bass is played.
the idea for the FUZZ WAR came from the armageddon it is essentially the fuzz portion of the armageddon just without the filter(s) . so when people say they wish they had that fuzz sound, they can with the fuzz war, they just need to look for a filter lol. now it isnt EXACTLY the complete fuzz curcuit because the fuzz war got all the kinks worked out and with the armageddon, the drive knob always has to be turned up. this led me to believe that mine was broken but thats just the design lol.

when DBA first started taking custom orders, they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. so they took all requests to make pedals and then they got to point and just stopped.
they'd charge something like $450 for a custom box ( i guess this is pertially where the overpriced rumer came from ) but at the end, most customers got thier pedals for less because turnaround time took wayyyyy longer than promised.
so why so much for a simple feedback looper?
1.) because it looks badass
and
2.) because if you knew you could get away with selling a simple feedback loop for $150 and continue to get away with it every single time, why not keep doing it. thats just good business, at least its not $200 lol.
also, when facing against other companies, some people are a little biased in my opinion. for example, people drool over devi ever boxes cause a chick made them " devi youre so cool" and " devi youre so hot ". ive tried a few boxes out and i like some and dont like others. but its pretty much a taste in preferance. some of my DBA custom boxes are sh!t while others have no contenders.
so thats my take on that. its just whatever you like, and i happen to like DBA lol.
i also think that the artists that use certain pedals influence the market.
for example, someone sees my bloody valentine use a whammy and a yamaha rack, there goes more sales and more people trying to use that particular sound.
someone sees a place to bury strangers use an octave and love thier sound, so they go out and buy an octave clang and try to get thier sound.
with that said, some companies can charge a little more because the demand goes up, usually revamp an old design and market it as such.
other things influence prices like being able to get away with higher ones because of cool graphics, or because somethings a " limited run " and the builder needs to turn a quick profit to get things going with future products.
DBA just gets away with cool looking pedals that happen to sound awesome and fools like me buying them up.
thats my two cents on your comment sir hahaha

This. A two-knob fuzz for three hundred bucks? Just no. >.<
lol, then you'd fall to the floor laughing over what I just bought
And what might that be...

^ this
and to let youz guys in on a lil secret ( i think its already been made public ), DBA might be working on a reverb pedal to add to the line up based off thier space spring or reverb galaxy

Interesting. However...
It doesn't look to me to be anything like a Big Muff. It has the same "backward" transistor configuration as "featured" in the Fuzz War. And none of the 7 transistors seem to have feedback loop clipping diodes. So if the Muff was indeed the inspiration, it seems to have been a fleeting idea that did not make the final design. At least based on the gut shots of one unit that I've looked at.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were huge variations in different Armageddon units, as the one I looked at was built on what looks like a Radio Shack prototyping board.

Well, it doesn't seem to be anywhere remotely close to either a Muff or any of the Tonebender versions.

It's a secret!
But there will be a public unveiling of the schematic in the near future. It's in the works.

the reverb pedals that i mentioned are custom ones. i asked oliver when i saw him last of any new pedals that might be in the works and he mentioned a possible reverb and then i think he mentioned it in some interview too.
so its not out YET and i have no idea when or if it will come out soon.
also a possible rack unit? that i think sounds a little too much. like a pre amp or something. he brought one on tour.
