DS chiptune software suggestions wanted

I just got one of those flash cartridges for the ds and I'm trying to find some cool music programs for it. I plan on putting on that korg thing that was made for the ds, and those pixelh8 programs, and nanoloops and lsdj. I was just wondering what other programs are good for the ds?

I'd recommend the NitroTracker software. Really versatile and easy to use (relatively speaking).

LSDJ is a must, of course, NitroTracker, and the pixelh8 stuff as well.

I was never big on Nanoloop, but I know some guys swear by it.

Tracker programs are old as dirt very portable small footprint sequencers. Recomended. tuts are available on the web

But both of those are build for the gameboy, and using a DS would just give you an emulation of that sound, so it wouldn't sound as good (as far as I know, I'm not sure how good the emulators you can get are). Nanoloop guy doesn't let you download roms, the only (legit) way to get it is from the carts he sells. LSDJ is pay what you want, so throw them a bone!

I've thought about the sound quality problems and I don't know how good or bad the gameboy roms will sound on the ds through and emulator. I'll just have to try it. And as for nanoloops, I do have a rom version

That nitrotracker looks great! Do you know of any drum and bass type programs that can handle weird beats, 3/4 7/4 etc.

It depends on the DS - I've had a handful of them over the years, and I liked the sounds I got from a DS Lite.

The original DS will get the job done, but doesn't sound as good.

I haven't tried a DSi or XL, so I can't comment there.

Overall, it's passable. Some things aren't possible, but most are. I recorded a chiptune EP with a DS Lite and it came out sounding pretty good.

Don't be afraid of flashcarts. There are two complicated things about using them. Finding good emulation software (for playing any nes snes genesis atari gameboy dos games) and finding roms that will work with the emulators. Those are two pretty much one time things and once you've done that you're set for a long time.

I'd like to get a DSi and get into this stuff but I am pretty clueless about how it all works.

Any links to decent resources on what to get and how to set things up on a DSi?

don't forget about the korg m01 too! made by the same guys who made the korg ds10, its a korg m1 emulation thing.

dont be scurred of the flash carts! they are very easy to setup. all u need is a DS, a flash cart and a microSD card. i cant remember what website i got my info off of, (it was years ago).
just make sure u get a real one and not a knock off cart or atleast buy from a reputable site that others have confirmed working carts.

i think they utilize the bigger SD cards now too. so u can get up to like 16/32gbs...and thats a lot of roms!
its pretty easy to find the emulator apps as well.

u can use nanoloop rom, i think u just can't save on it. and as far as the sound goes, my impressions were always pretty damn good compared to my OG grey brick gameboy...u cant really tell the difference. the newer DSi's are supposed to have better sound quality than DS and DS lite.

there was a website i found back in the day that chronicles the different sound qualities of all the different gameboys from the OG grey brick all the way up to the DS.
