It's awesome

The MKI (my favorite fuzz) was Gary Hurst taking a shot at boosting the sustain of the FZ1a.

ever since I heard stones - satisfaction I have been gasing for a FZ1a. you can plug into a FZ1a and get that sound instantly. I just dont hear it on any other pedal. all the other maestro fuzzes have a slightly different sound. so yeah FZ1a is a keeper. I dont know why it hasnt skyrocketed into the $800 fuzz face territory. FZ1a gets $150 on ebay.

I'm getting a classy wedge style enclosure soon-ish...not sure if I should put a FZ1A or a marshall supa mkI in it :snax:

The FZ-1 runs at 3V, 2xAA batteries, while the FZ-1A does 1.5V, 1xAA, the 1B runs at 9V on a regular 9V battery.

the problem is that if you add a switched 9v jack, you have to run the pedal on 9v battery. if you leave it for 9v jack and 2 AA battery than you have to add a switch or a disconnect. if you do run it on 9v battery, you'll drain the battery cause of the voltage regulator. so you have to choose, battery drain sucks, drilling on vintage should be kept to a minimum so no switch. you may want to use a 2 pin header to disconnect the voltage regulator when not in use. or you could just make sure you take the battery out when its on wall power and dont connect power when its on battery.

I saw one on ebay that the guy had just changed out the battery snap -- I think that would more than likely just kill the trannies.
It has an on/off built into the volume pot though, so battery drain really isn't an issue if you remember to turn it off. Just leave it plugged in on your board.
