Old Cd cases are good for something

Post by kaboom »

I installed a chorus/vibrato switch in my fender starcaster chorus and in so doing decided I would go ahead and get rid of the battery box and use that space for the new switch. To make the new cover plate, I took the black cd tray out of an old jewel case, cut a piece to size with an xacto knife, filed down the rough spots with an emery board, then drilled some screw holes. Not exactly beautiful, but not too shabby:

Awesome, been wanting to pick these up on the cheap. Good idea on the battery cover swap.

A different kind of switch would probably have been smarter, but I had this one handy. I left the wires kinda long so I wouldn't have to disconnect them if I wanted to open it back up. Other than that i'm pretty happy with it.

The place where I work gets in used CDs from folks and recycles the plastic cases. Makes me feel good to work for a company that actually goes out of its way to make a positive impact. They could just be throwing the plastic away and no one would know.

I have one of these Fender Chorus pedals that I haven't decided what to do with. Mine doesn't technically work right now.. I was thinking of pulling out the (nonworking) PCB and the knobs/pots, then putting a self-adhesive breadboard where the knobs were, wiring up in the switch, LED, and jacks, and making it a breadboard pedal testbed.

Good idea -- I was looking for a similar solution but it's going to be applied in a different situation (underestimated how thin the surface of a guitar really was when chiseling a little of the control cavity away...it now has a big area punched out :idk:)

I wish I had been able to get one of those chorus pedals when that deal was goin' on.

You should really do that. Would be cool to see. Do you think you would set it on a board with other terminals or anything?
