that isn't a Mustang. It's a Duo Sonic and should be damn proud to be one.

I do believe the mustang is 24.75 yes its shorter than your average fender 25.5 BUT duo sonic is 22.7. thats what makes them awesome. tune it to G standard with 10's and you can hit the same high E thats on your 24 fret shred machine. and it doesnt get floppy at all. all the Duo's are 22.7 but they are in fact vintage squires so quality is meh. the japan short scale strat 22.7 is rare as balls and I want one.

on topic: is it possible that the klusons suck just as much as the stock squire tuners. I think the pickgaurd is the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

Mustang is 24" or 22 and change. Same with Duo, some 24", some the shorter scale. If you want that body in a 24.75", there's the Cyclone models.

all I know of is the 80's MIJ thats about $700 - $800 on ebay in good condition and rare as fuck

the more i think about that new mustang, i wish they woulda just made it a new model like what they did with the cyclone and the toronado in the 90's. fender has been lacking in that department lately if you ask me. the body is different but similiar to the mustang but looks alot like the shape of the fender marauder that was a super rare proto that went nowhere.

I love the modified shape they used on this new Mustang, it really could be a new model. Looks like what the Jag-Stang should've been, shape-wise at least. It's like they finally threw in some elements of both, with the contoured arm rest and fattened shape. Never liked the flat top, rounded edge look of the Mustang, but I love JMs and Jags, so this looks great to me.

Also, I play humbuckers almost exclusively so I have a hard time bonding with low output single coils. With the coil tap, it will be the best of both for me, awesome feature on any HB equipped guitar. I think Fender did a great job with this model, definitely a quirky redesign of a classic model. Not very fond of the others though, look a bit ridiculous to me. If they priced these a couple hundred lower I bet they'd fly out of stores!

for sure man, i'm totally down with that shape too. you are right it seems like what the jagstang shoulda been, and the electronic layout is super bitchin! it really looks like a hot rodded duo sonic II that looked like the mustang but with a hardtail. i just wish fender would call it something else, like what they did with the cyclone, kinda like the next in line in the evolution of that shape. if they called it something like the "Fender MotherFucker" i'd sell a kidney for a blue one.

The HBs they used are pretty hot though, something like 20-23K, that should make them split nicely. I have a couple Maton electrics with similar output and they sound great split, we'll see.

Confused a bit though, Fender's site says they used Enforcer Wider Range (like a John 5 tele, i think) but that PG review video said it's unique because they're using the Lee Ranaldo sig PUs, a revoiced Wide Range, who knows. Also read these are MIJ, which would be awesome.

dont forget those pickup designers will often overwind one of the coils on the HB if they know it is for a guitar with a coil split. so you could get 20k HB and 14k split. lollar did it for a guitar builder friend of mine. I hear its pretty common.

I just dont like the (EDIT: split coil) sound at all for some reason. and I think they voiced the HB's to sound very much like a clean HB meats fender SC sound. I never like the pearly gates or any of the fender HB's. the quater pound is good for texas blues but I dont really like fender HB's. these pawn shops sound great but I just feel like if its gonna be that close to the SC sound then why?

I hear you, I have a bunch of pickups lying around but I'm hoping I like what comes stock, fingers crossed. I read they're pretty aggressive, which I'd favor, as long as I can squeeze some nice cleans out of the singles. More important, I'll see how it plays, can always mess with PUs later. That demo video didn't show shit, wish they would've thrown some fuzz or dirt on that thing. Finally, the GC return policy will come in handy if it sucks.

I used to work there and I'll tell you a secret. buy it online with pro coverage and you get a brand new guitar without the nasty fingerprints and boogers. then you have 60 days instead of 30 to return it for ANY reason either by house pickup or at the store. also, you wanna return that pro coverage cause that shit sucks. its over priced and doesnt cover anything really. they have a way to get out of it on guitars. only thing its good for is if the electronics but if you change the pickups later then you just voided your $180 bullshit insurance. they cover manufacturer defects but the manufacturer already covers them under the manufacturer warranty. the only thing you get from pro coverage is damage that is not a factory defect but is a result of extreme humidity/temperature changes. electronics are easy to fix your self so who cares about that. just make sure you walk into the store with 30 or 60 days to return the pro coverage. your only getting it so you have a longer return policy anyway.

Thanks for the info! My buddy is a manager at a local GC and I've been taking advantage of that for several years. He always orders in new guitars, the one's on the floor are usually beat to shit or all dried out or whatever. Lately we just do the online order in-store since the warehouse is in KC, about four hours from me so it's real quick. I hate GC, it's really destroyed a lot of the small shops around St. Louis, but I can't resist the savings damn it!

He always jokingly asks during EVERY transaction if I want the pro coverage. People buy that shit up though!
