Actually today is the first time I've listened to them since that fateful night about 3 years ago, and only because I met Juan Alderete at work today and the dude was cool as fuck. That guy LIVES to play. He's what, 47 years old, and upon seeing new gear acts like a young teenager the first time s/he walks into Guitar Center. Much respect for dudes in it for the love.

Cool story about Juan Alderete!
I'm a little older, 41, and I was into RacerX since the day they came out. So I've been a JA fan forever! But I honestly didn't even know about TMV until right before Francis came out...like literally 2 weeks. I just got the Bass Player mag with him on the cover. I was so jacked to see him doing something big again and knew they had to kickass so I scored DITC and was blown away. And that didn't even have him on it.
So I bought FTM it the day it came out and yeah, it practically changed my lfe too.
From that point on, I took a musical u-turn in my approach mentally/philosophically to playing bass and using effects.
It's awesome to hear that he really is just one of us.

................oh yeah and Omar kicks ass too! :p

No mixing problems, and Thomas Pridgen is one of the best drummer I have ever seen live, he never stopped playing for an hour and a half, the little transitions between songs he just kept playing. Also, Cedric def. said that, I wouldn't lie, and they did play all old stuff.

That's my biggest problem with Pridgen. He just thunders through everything, overplaying and driving me insane. To me, he's the drumming version of Yngwie Malmsteen. I'll take Jon Theodore any day of the week. He had so much soul, and knew when to play LESS.

I'm by no means a huge Volta fan, when I do listen I either listen to De-Loused or Frances, and since Theodore was the drummer for those I agree with you

Jon also drummed on Amputechture, and then left before they went on tour for it. That actually is my favorite album, but all 3 of those are awesome.

Yeah he's actually the reason I left the show. HE DID NOT STOP. EVER. It was awful. Yes, we get it, you're good, now try channeling some Bonham for 5 minutes, jesus.

Funny that you all are talking about this. I just listened to Frances the Mute yesterday for the first time after grabbing it used, and sadly it was the most tedious listen in recent memory for me. I loved ATDI, really liked Deloused, but FTM seems like there are far too few highlights. L'via L'viaques is one. But the rest is more about 'fro than flow. I'm finding that I like the idea of them more than I actually like their music.

Interesting, I find L'Via L'Viaquez to be the most ... umm ... boring (normal) track on that album. The first movement of Cassandra Gemini is one long highlight to me.

well i think L'Via L'Viaquez would be perfect for Octahedron as it is kinda "mellow" album :thumb: i just love those cascading delays :) when it comes to effects, Omar is one of the best in my books ;) anyway - i like the song very much
frankly - the most boring is The Widow... seriously - what the fuck, man?! It's not just annoying for it's lenght, it's just annoying overall...

edit: i probably have some problem with my MP3s... the Widow is great, i think that Cygnus... VIsmund Cygnus is the one i meant... annoying

TMV is teh sex and the new Omar is kinda strange, but interesting! thanks for sharing

edit: yeah and about Thomas Pridgen - he surely played A LOT, but i think he perfectly fit in the band

Digging up this thread. For those who don't know about the new drummer, he's so fucking good. & he can control his dynamics haha. I believe he tracked drums on the upcoming Volta album, as well.

Surprised at the quality of this video, too. & the first song is super super long, like almost that whole video. The second song starts around 25min.
