Any suggestions beyond the obvious Squier one's?
Ideally it would have a maple fretboard and I'd like single coils so no 72' thinlines

I think this and the Squier are the two best options, try both out and see which you like more. I have limited experience with the G&L Tributes, but I
love my USA Asat and I've heard nothing but good things about the Tribute line.

Those Squiers sound amazing. I watched a band play with the single coil one and asked what he did to his guitar...it was stock, out of a shitty Crate Head and some cheap 4x12, but it sounded like sex. Get the Squier, they go so cheap used.

I'm stuck between the Vintage Modified and the Classic Vibe
I guess I'm just wondering if you all would recommend mahogany or alder in a thinline
