Digitech Timebender - A swiss army knife of freaky sounds

Post by dorfmeister »

Just tried one of these out at my local guitar store. Gets some crazy sounds. I don't think this would replace my El Capistan for simple good delay sounds but it does a lot of things that are really interesting.

I was getting Slicer type sequenced effects out of this, it has a looper, modulation, harmonized repeats, reverse delay.....hell a good bit of the time I had no idea how I was getting the various sounds I was getting...but for some interesting atmospherics and looping of freaky sequences to play over top of it was great.

I've been looking on ebay and seeing these at times for under $200. Seems like a pretty hot deal.....I am thinking of picking one up.

Nice review from Total Guitar;

I guess I don't really have any brand prejudice....I have owned pedals from Boss, Digitech, Strymon, Malekko, Death by Audio, Devi Ever, Fuzzhugger, Dice Works and so on and so forth. If a pedal does something I like then I like it. Brand isn't going to enter into the equation much for me unless the company has a rep for terrible service, quality control, or if they test their pedals on kittens or something, but otherwise it is an open field.

i see your point, but it's just that i haven't tried a good digitech pedal (i'd be interested in trying the Expression factory tho... possibly a Whammy)

the good thing about this is they offer some amazing features for the money... but i would personally be very careful

I've got a Digitech looper that I like fine....not perfect but it does what it needs to do....hmmmm....careful about what?....the damned things appear to be built like tanks......they get some crazy sounds I like.......you can get them pretty cheap on e-bay.... If it turns out I don't like it and I bought it cheap I will lose little to no money in resale.....what is there to be careful about?

I tried it out in the store and found it intriguing.....might play it longer and find it to be crap....tried out the Digitech Harmonyman as well.....I thought it was crap.....sounded thin....didn't like the control set.

oh... :facepalm: :whateva: well... at least Digitech used to do the modulation effects and the pitch shifting pretty good. And the wacky synthy stuff? Hell yeah! I'm still half-seriously hoping I'd get a Digitech XP300 Space Station at certain point and make an album of faux Black Sabbath fx intros. :lol:

The pitched repeats of this sound a very Digitech idea to me. Probably a totally acceptable tool to do crazy shit with! :) Probably sounds nohing like the analog Schumann PLL but hey - it probably doesn't cost too much either (or then You just might deserve paying the extra for being stupid to the boot).

I found it to have some crazy sounds I liked. Wouldn't be my first choice for a straightforward delay. It is looking like these can be had new on e-bay for about $200....less used.....seems like a lot of processing power for relatively little....speaking of the Schumann PLL....don't have that but I do have a Snazzy Mini-Ark.

Yeah, I'm with You about all that. Better to buy a good allaround delay and leave this to the FX HELL channel for shits and giggles. :thumb:

Let's not. When I used to have that kind of money and a used one was available I didn't get it. So let's rather say I would have hated it anyway, okay.

I own one and it is awesome, the fact that you can strum tap tempo it will freeze the delay sound, has the looper will even do the repeats up to an octave up or down and anywhere in between, plus with the presets you can gig with it, it doesn't replace my maxon or DL10 for just a normal delay but it does the freaky stuff so well.

I know it's a digitech which is supposed to be evil in a box but it is a crazy good pedal and very rugged, I just got a chorus factory as well and it has slaughtered my other chorus pedals (it sadly does the Small clone sound better than my actual small clone)

I found my timebender used with Manual and power supply for 100 bucks, which is a crazy steal.
