Japandroids, seen them in October and they were loud as hell. One side of the stage was a wall of Fender amps and bass cabinets.
Also, PS I Love You, they opened for Japandroids when I saw them. The guitarist used a bass organ, sounded pretty huge.

though this for a moment and was shocked: NOBODY had mentioned GODFLESH    not even me  well, okay, in the end the band ended up with a live drummer and became a trio, but the most important albums (1989-1994 and again in 1999) was released and performed as duo. Hard to think of any sludge band that didn't own a lot to Godflesh.

... then there's the Pittsburgh pride, Zombi, hasn't been mentioned, has it? Pretty neat, reminds me of nothing less than the Goblin :joy: at times, which is, of course, a very, very good investment on cool.

I found this pretty recently, was a pleasant surprise - these chicks sure are doing the sludge the right way! :thumb:

Oh, and: Arktau Eos, a gem amongst the ritual ambient and dark ambient acts. Instruments made of human bones, Tibetan buddhist ritual instrument and whatnot. Antti (credited as AL) used to play guitar and write the songs for the Babylon Whores. The live performances are pretty intense.

Haeretici 7074... Rajapinta... Aghast... Abruptum was a duo for a significant part of its career... actually, I feel duo is the preferred band form in the dark ambient/ ritual ambient/ power electronics/ EBM/atmospheric black metal acts I know.

The Muldoons (not to be confused with the omg-we're-kids-and-signed-a-record-deal-because-mommy-and-daddy-are-rich-know-Jack-White band that's on Last.fm under the same name.)

They disbanded and have practically no presence online. Previews of some good songs on CDBaby. Songs were really well written compared to all the DETH METAL going on in the Upper Peninsula at the time. Check out Randall, Bill and Bones and The Sycamore Bees on that CDBaby page.

Use your feet for percussion, and play kazoo or something with your mouth when you're not singing. That's how these guys did it.

Definitely an awesome live show.

Whoa, never expected this reference. I grew up in the U.P. and am living here again. Cool.

No Age has been mentioned. I like them a lot minus the latest album, which sounds dumb to me. Japandroids manages to be catchy while powerful and fuzzy.
