Dark Boost Replacement?

Post by Bassboar »

Hey guys, I've been hunting a Devi Dark Boost forever. They've seemingly dropped off the face of the earth to me. Is there anything out there that does the same stuff and is roughly the same size? I'm using a Fulltone Bassdrive with the tone rolled down to approxamate that sound, but it's pretty big and has a bit too much going for what I would use the DB for. Help me :(

If you turn the treble down on The Wolf and just use the bass knob it would be close to a Dark Boost, maybe a bit dirtier but not by much.

Yeah, I'm not good at DIY stuff. The Wolf does look intriguing, I'll start saving my pennies :thumb:

The Wolf looks frakkin' cool.

If you are looking to purchase new, eBay always seems to have two or three sellers listing a Dark Boost in stock. Prymaxe has one listed: Dark Boost listing. If eBay isn't cool, you could purchase directly from the Prymaxe or other dealer website.

Like karmablock said, the Ruiner is two Dark Boost circuits stacked in one pedal. It is sick, but may be more texture than what you're after.

I modded my Devi Ever Hyperion with a 3-way toggle that switches the circuit from Dark Boost to Hyperion to Silver Crank.
There is a character limit.

If you can get your hands on a Devi Ever Hyperion, I believe that's a 33 and a Dark Boost in a single box. I had mine modded by Stanimal to recombine the circuits with a couple of three-position switches - I'd bet that one of our DIY-savvy brethren could mod one to completely isolate the circuits if you wanted.

Just like the Helios it's a dual stompbox by devi. It's the Silvercrank and the Dark Boost circuit separately with a starve knob

imho the ruiner actually cuts loads of bass, wayyy more than most of her pedals
not sure if the wolf is the same but it kinda sounds like it

You might be into that, but be aware once you start stacking the dark boost it really sounds nothing like a dark boost anymore

Don't know if possible but it might be an idea. to get a ruiner and make a switch to take the 2 DB's separately so you can switch betwen a ruiner and a DB

You also may want to consider the Fuzzrocious Dark Driving, which has a pretty loyal following over on Talkbass. Ryan from Fuzzrocious is a really nice guy, and his pedals are usually pretty kick-ass.
