Non-fuzz advice

O.k. folks... <deep breath>... this has been a long time coming, but... <deep exhale> my name is Jrmy, and I have a fuzz addiction.

Within the next couple of weeks I will own five fuzz boxes that will be wanting my attention (including a B:assmaster, Cherry Pop, US, a Grim Rimmer [!!!!!] and one other I cannot mention until it's officially ordered, and not counting the older boxes gathering dust in my closet that don't get play any more). And I think it's time for me to take a step away from the fuzz, if only for a moment, and figure out what else I need in my board.

My other current pedals include: an EH Bass Microsynth, a full-sized EH POG, and a Holy Stain.

Does anyone have suggestions for something more? Anyone tried out the ProTone non-fuzz modulation pedals, like the Raven Chorus? Anyone got some good ring-mod suggestions? Aen, do you still love the Flanger Hoax?

Of course, now that I've made that vow, I bet Devi will unveil ten new fuzzes that will totally get me back on the fuzz-purchasing (or just lusting) wagon...

EHX Polychorus mayhaps? It's got modulation and ring...modulation, sort of.

I just got one the other day, still messing with it. My guitarist can get it to sound great (in a normal way), where I'm having trouble dialing in a "normal" chorus sound.

Still I recommend it.

And yes, check out the Heliotrope. And the Geiger Counter. And the Prometheus for somthing a bit different but awesome.

I'm still having great fun with my moog ringmod. Always useful for something, even if you just dial in a little ringmod to make more harmonics or use the passive overdrive.

Maybe what you want is a looper? Devi fuzzes and similars has enough textures and fun to last a lifetime, so keeping a few of them (the textures) stored in a box to unleash whenever you want while jamming can't be bad.

Haven't been pedal-drooling in a while, but this thing here caught my attention. Small, lo-fi, inexpensive loopers = double win for everyone.

I don't know if it's just me, but good modulation pedals after crazy fuzzes can make me a little seasick. They can certainly be tricky to combine.

How bout a subtle overdrive pedal...in case you ever feel like playing some chords, or something crazy like that.

You are going to love the B:Assmaster. It is an incredible pedal. My favorite fuzz of all time.

The Moog Ring Mod is a great pedal. I have one and it doubles as a versatile trem.

Oh man, I should have known that I'd find some good advice on the DE boards... that is all great stuff! Now I need to find the cash... d'oh!

The big surprise for me was the Pitch Pirate. How the heck did I miss out on that thing's existance?!?! I may have to find one, just to see how it sounds on bass...

And the B:assmaster has been in my arsenal for a while, Dorfmeister - it's what first took me down the path of fuzz past my old Big Muffs. It's already winning converts - positively shocked the heck out of a guitarist I play with who tends to stick with very 80's sounding stiff distortion. I believe his exact quote was "Who knew that that thing could sound so GOOD?!"

How bout a Crowther Audio 'Prunes & Custard'?
I know it's kind of a fuzz....but it's not just a normal fuzz.
They sound great on bass.

I can't recommend those since I don't have 'em,but...just might be my next purchase.

Seems like he's making some cool and unique fx .Not too expensive and interesting indeed.

Dang - I had totally forgotten about Copilot... I like the Gyroscope quite a bit... hmmm...

And the Prunes & Custard ain't too shabby either. The Grim Rimmer I'm picking up this week has a little of the ring mod that the Prunes & Custard features, but not so extreme, and not mixable either.

Oh, and a good overdrive is definitely on my GAS list. I'm thinking Dark Boost. Still haven't heard any clips of it on bass, but I'm guessing it must sound awesome...

I'm so with you on that, Basti. I've been looking at the Junk-fi Sampler for a while, seems like it could be very cool. Wish I had more money...
