I also use a custom set of strings, a .016, .024w, .032, .042, .052, .068 fpr C standard/Dropped Bb, and .018, .028w, .038, .048, .068, .085 for A standard/Dropped G.
OMG!! How do you keep your intonation with such a low tuning? Locking bridge/tuners perhaps? I use Planet Waves locking tuners on my LP, but it still gets sloppy when bending strings
Dunlop yellow tortex and medium celluloid. Also have some of the shiny delrin picks (the pink/purple ones) but they don't grip so good.
I used to use Ice Pix Stix, which are just celluloid with a suction thing on back. Makes a fantastic grip, but they cost too much. Their copper flex pick is cool, though.
For strings, I use SIT on everything. They're the only bass strings I've used that could hold up to tremolo use. (well, only affordable ones)
Lots of vendors drop picks into their boxes as a marketing tool and some are good (and some suck) but when i got one of these fiberboard Lollar Picks and tried it out on my jazzmaster it delivered this gorgeous muffled thick tone (they do need to be broken in because the edges are sharp) and with my acoustic they really affect the tone of the guitar, probably one of the few picks i've used that actually make an improved tonal difference.... OH, and because of the texture of the fiberboard they DON'T slip out of your hand....
because they are getting popular they've started selling them separately in their webstore....
+1 to this. Those picks are my idea of a good time, and have a very distinctive sound. I also use these:
usho \ˈə-shō\ noun The space between a bed and an adjacent wall.
Left pick is a Dunlop Tortex .73mm Right pick is a Wegen 7.00mm
The Tortex brings a brighter sound than the 7, but the 7 is a bit easier for me to grip and is good with chords. I also like the darker sound of the 7, but I practice with both whenever I can.
I FUCKING LOVE PLECTRUMS & PYRAMIDS.
I use whatever I can find or my fingers my favorite strings are d'adarrios, .09s at that. I play.... <.< jazziness >.<
I just ordered a Wegen 7. I've already got a Wegen Trimus 500 (5mm), a V-Pick Insanity (11mm), a Colossal (9 mm) and several Big Stubbies and Psychos (5mm). I say the thicker the better though the bevel on the pick really makes a difference in playability. My insanity with psycho corners gets way more play than the thinner Colossal because I like the bevel better.
i use fingers over 50% of the time...fender medium is my pick of choice. 11-56 GHS for standard tuning, everything else depends on the tuning. i do use various bass strings ever so often for different textures in open tunings.
