Re: Algal Bloom versus AB Synth
And I'd guess the ABsynth 5K doesn't clean up quite the same as the Algal Bloom, despite the gain knob? Also, dunno how I'm going to find an ABsynth 5K.

No, it cleans up a bit funkier, a bit nastier, a bit thinner when really rolled back, and can get slightly gated.
They're a Tone Factor exclusive when they have them in stock. When they don't, I can build them by custom request.

Re: Algal Bloom versus AB Synth
I just pulled the trigger on ordering an AB-Synth. Decided that the regular model will be plenty for me. I think Bobby DeVito's demo sold me on it. Thanks Tom!

Re: Algal Bloom versus AB Synth
If I had to lose pedals, the AB-Synth would be the next to last one to go (right before the Memory Boy). I love how I can touch my volume knob and get instant response.

Re: Algal Bloom versus AB Synth
I can't wait for the AB-Synth to get here.. But I'll be patient. I'm from Wisconsin, after all.
Edit: And I've got an Algal Bloom on the way, too!

Sounds like a custom dual is what you need.

So let's say you have an 1134 fuzz but are considering an AB-Synth or an Algal Bloom... Which way would you go?

Re: Algal Bloom versus AB Synth
What do you want it for? Sweet reliable fuzz or crazy oscillation? With the AB-Synth you actually get both of those.. though I find myself tweaking the knobs in oscillation mode sometimes and losing a sweet regular fuzz tone..

Re: Algal Bloom versus AB Synth
I'm kinda not so into the crazy oscillation fuzzes actually. Wondering how close the tones are between the 1134 and the Algal Bloom and if having both would be redundant.
Edit: after to listening to some more demos I think the 1134 and the Algal Bloom are pretty different actually. Might be room enough for both in the stacks....

according to tom the chalice could achieve 95% of the 1134 and alot more. the chalice was an absynth without the osc but an added gain control. the 5 knob as-synth has the added gain control!

the algal bloom is a different beast.

i would buy both if i were you!

I ended up getting both

The purple thing is an extra-small Algal Bloom.

Yep, VINTAGE FUZZ MASTER.The Algal Bloom is threatening to knock it off the board though.. It already got rid of my DE TP.
It will do that.
Also, I have both the Algal Bloom and ABSynth, but much prefer the Algal Bloom.
Both are sweet, but the Algal Bloom is just too awesome to keep up with.
