Just go a Basic Audio Spooky Tooth in the mail

Post by dorfmeister »

John from Basic Audio just sent me my Basic Audio Spooky Tooth.

I have not yet had a chance to play through it.

Here is the info he has on his page.

http://www.mrdwab.com/john/pedalpage.html

My pedal looks just like the one illustrated.

SPOOKY TOOTH
A very 6T's inspired fuzz with a slightly compressed feel that pumps and blooms depending on your picking strength and chord complexity.
The Fuzz knob blends through a range of gain and texture combinations. The middle settings of the Texture knob are softer in the mid range for semi scooped thick sound. A wild ride for sure!
Sort of a combination of the Orpheum, Mosrite Fuzzrite and Superfuzz tones + a gritty mild fuzz at low gain settings.

Here is what I found you saying about it in this thread.

"It's insane how many tones are in the timbre knob. Lovely."

Aw, I was going to write a much longer reply including comparisons. I thought I might have saved it as a draft but it's not there. I'll see if I can find the time to share my thoughts tomorrow.

Awesome!
I've been on a "make my guitar sound like a reed instrument" kick lately so the zippy has been on my radar, but I think I dig the clips I've heard of the spooky more.
There are some that call me...morningstaru?

I was looking at the gnarly but he told me that this was going to be a way more flexible fuzz for getting similar sounds.

That sounds like it's going to be heaven.
I love all three of those fuzzes -- especially the Orpheum. And John's a good bloke.
Good deals done with all these guys

Took it to the local guitar shop to show my buddies and we set it up on an ac4 and a blackface reissue deluxe. I thought it was better with the fender.

Power was supplied by a boss 9v adapter and it was super noisy - got it home and powered it from my t Rex fuel tank and I didn't notice any excessive noise but I couldn't play it loud enough to give it a good workout.

Appears to be a fuzz with a pretty wide range of tones from overdrive to saturated fuzz to broken crackly fuzz with the right setting and the volume backed off though at other settings the pedal cleans up pretty well.

No one plans these things...they just happen because someone is a necromancer on this board.

I traded the Spooky Tooth because I thought it was a really dark pedal. It wasn't bad.....but I couldn't dial in any sounds that could get me very excited about the pedal. It just didn't have mojo.

I like the Led Bender I got for it more but my KIng of all Fuzz pedals is still my Diceworks Muff Diver. Bone Machine is coming soon. Excited by that.
