It's listed as a '77,...the speaker wiring seems a little off perhaps not original but I'm not a guitar amp expert. A keyboardist buddy is considering this to pair with a Fender Rhodes from around the same era.
Does this look pretty clean to you? I'm looking for a project in the future as well possibly a light restoration/clean and check as well as figuring out how to re-tube and re-bias.
This is listed at a seemingly good deal at <$600
Also,...are Blackfaces more valuable? If so are they more valuable because they sound better,...or because they are older (I'm aware of the 80's blackface reissues).
Yeah,...just a quick check of evilbay and google,...this is a screaming deal. I'm not interested in buying for myself since,...a) I have no cash and when I do it's going into my business,...and b) I'm not a guitarist.
My buddy has a sick Fender Rhodes (and by sick I mean sexy,...I love the Rhodes sound) and has been playing it through a crappy solid state Peavey Keyboard amp. In my research; it seems to be a common consensus among Rhodes aficionados that the Fender Twin is the amp of choice; which makes sense since it has reverb and vibrato and the Rhodes is pretty similar to a guitar in function.
My bro has a little discretionary income so I'm hoping he jumps on it. Looks like a sweet amp even if it is in need of a cap/tube job.
i have a roughly contemporaneous Twin. my guess is that the speaker wiring may or may not be new; the original Fender-logo plug appears to be present. the preamp tube retainers have been changed from the typical plain metal cans, and the cabling for the reverb tank is also non-original. this is not surprising given that the old cabling wasn't of terrific quality. i'd love to know what the speakers are.
blackface Twins, like blackface versions of most Fender amps, are more valuable. i don't know that they sound "better" as much as they sound different. $600 is a good price for a silverface Twin, though prices have been dropping lately what with the economy and what seems to be a glut on the market...i see used silverface Twins everywhere for less than the cost of new Twin Reverb RIs, typically about $800-850. if it sounds decent at all, i'd bite. a Twin for the price of a reissue AC15? as Trevor Bayne would say, are you kiddin' me?

i prefer the blackface over the silverface any day. granted it's all subjective but i've given silverface amps away. however for a rhodes they are amazing imo. fuk those things are so heavy. great amps though.
in retrospect i can't believe there was a time in my life when i used to carry my silverface Twin up and down four flights of stairs to the loft i used to practice at. i guess i was tougher than i thought i was.

Fuck yeah. I've always wanted a PA-100 so I could crank the twin sound into even more speakers.
i just got a silver face twin for $400 with a pair of eminence swamp thangs in it. i was expecting to have to switch out the speakers but was pleasantly surprised by how much i liked a speaker with such a stupid name.
Buy it. The BF are older, so must sound better LOL. Actually the best sounding Twins and Super Reverbs I’ve ever heard were silver face.
A little loving care and you have a winner. One thing…. If it has dirty brown coupling caps it wil be a tad tonally challenged. If it has neat blue caps it will sing. Never ever replace blue caps in a fender and never ever use orange drops to replace the “turds”. Use Cornel–Doubler which sound almost exactly like the blue Paxtrons.
