Hidy-ho.
I am very much wanting to get into some simple pedal building with the eventual goal of being able to mod my own effects an even create my own. While these goals may perhaps be a far out, I was wondering if anyone could provide suggestions for a good way to get a solid foundation. I am looking for some good books or way to get myself a nice general knowledge base. Right now I have read some cheesey electronics in the modern age book or something like that but it didn't seem to hit the spot. For example, right now I know the difference in tone between a germanium and silicon transistor, but I can not tell you what a transistor does. Is there a good practical electronics book or a book focused more on DIY electronics out there? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, here are a couple links to get you started:

Also, I can't stress enough the importance of having the right tools. It can be very discouraging trying to complete/troubleshoot/mod a project without the right tools. You don't want to feel like quiting before you get to the fun part (making some noise) do you?

I hope this helps.

What doesn't a transistor do? It's like the everything a man wants in a little box. And I mean everything.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been unable to check out the links yet, because I am drowning in homework. As soon as some time frees up I will check them out!

just build for fun and understanding and out of interest
then once you got a good thing going then think about building your own stuff
