Tube pre-amp pedals

Post by Monkeyboard »

To get some good tube OD out of my JC-120 I bought an EHX English Muff'n. It is awesome and I have no intention of selling it but at the time I didn't really know the market.

So out of sheer curiosity. What other tube pre-amp pedals are out there as far as you know? :idk:

i like the sib! varidrive a lot. have it since 2005 on my board ( http://www.sibfx.com/products.html )

but there are a lot
effectrode tube drive ( http://www.effectrode.com/website/tube_ ... e_main.htm ) - quite new
H&K Tube Man ( http://www.hughes-and-kettner.com/produ ... man%20MKII ) - a classic (also the tube factor)
Mesa V-Twin - also a classic
Soldano GTO
Tonebone stuff
t-rex spin doctor
amt s11 & s20
maxon / ibanez tube king
blackstar pedals
rocktron silver dragon
vox cool tron pedals
i think seymour duncan has also something and millions of other...

but none of the later gives me gas...

I love that original Mesa V-twin. It is a monster.
Blew my mind in 1995 when I first tried it and it is just as massive sounding now.

The Radial Tonebone stuff is excellent -- pick your flavour and go with it. They're also not really expensive.
The Butler Tube Driver is good too. But really look into the Tonebones -- Classic, Hot British, Plexitube (dual Hot British), Trimode (dual Classic)

You'll also never get real tube overdrive out of a tube preamp into a SS am though...
Good deals done with all these guys

I came about on a Butler Tube Driver and it gives a very detailed OD to distortion sound.

Well obviously. But I'll get a second amp if I feel the need for some power tube OD. :idk:

Just curious for the pre-amps. Thanks for all the answers!
