one of my favorite "complex" bands, that doesn't beat your head over with it's complexity (because its not speedy, or heavy) is The Claudia Quintet

the problem i have with overly technical stuff is that i get SUPER judgemental about it. if they try to be "omg emotional" it often comes off as super super trite for me. if its overly atonal, why bother having complex time at all. for me, the best technical stuff ironically doesn't take itself seriously.
