bbe free fuzz

Post by Fractals »

Hi. this is my first post here. :omg:
Has anyone used the free fuzz live? I tried one out and was pleasantly surprised.
Is it like an nyc muff and gets lost in the mix? I'm really interested but i'm waiting to hear first hand about this.
I'd especially love to hear from you if you use your free fuzz in a 2 guitar band.

No offense, bro....

but I don't think a lot of us on this forum are rocking BBE fuzz pedals.

You might need to get an upgrade on that....

Sounds a lot like a silicon Fuzz Face clone.

The price is decent, and other BBE stuff is made well.
If that’s the sound you like it should work fine live.

Hey Jimmy, Eric and those guys had to problems getting lost in the mix..

Hmm neither have I, but I am loud and obnoxious.

i think people on this board are rocking the best gear they can afford, whether it's behringer or DAM.
are you aware that neil haggerty from royal trux uses total crap gear? he's doing pretty ok with it.

True enough, but he also runs everything through millions of dollars worth of compressors and studio stuff on his records...he isn't exactly on a budget.

I'm not trying to rip anyone, but by your answer, I can infer that you're not exactly running a BBE free fuzz at the moment. That was basically the point I was making.

It's not like the BBE is a cheap behringer pedal though -- it retails for $120.

I wasn't trying to talk about expense vs. quality! I just don't think the BBE free fuzz is a very good pedal and frankly, I doubt that many people here are using it --- since you guys are all very polished about what you know/use, I think that does have some relevance.

Hey I know behringer is cheaply made by cheaply paid people but they do have a couple pedals that will ALWAYS be on my board

How foolish of me to ask about a fuzz pedal on a fuzz forum. :omg: :poke: :)

Nah, I get what your saying, I might add that is why I put '..i was pleasantly surprised.' in reference to trying one, as it seems like not the most uh..credible fuzz. (and its fucken ugly)
However, It sounded great to me, so it is just as much a fuzz pedal as a skreddy or vox tonebender etc.
Have you tried one yourself?

ps. love me some royal trux.. do like RTX aswell?

Forgive them they know not what the do or where they are.

Like I said. It should work.

Now lost in the mix in my experience has been either poor eq or mixing.

But some times when you have that great just perfect clean sound, effects can throw every thing out of whack and I hate changing my amp settings.

i'm sorry. but if it sounds great to you. & you find some value in it. then i think that is amazing--

i think what dude was trying to say was maybe most people on here are more apt to want to talk about "certain" fuzzes. not ALL fuzzes. which would makes sense if you think about it...

Anyway dead thread... I don't think any of these ^ guys are around anymore... I just got an old Free Fuzz with scratchy red lettering mojos and I think it rocks... Guy met me at Goodwill and said he'd traded an old Fuzz Face for it whiles back... I gave him some Devi and ran... This combo sounds go so far... I'm playing to a helicopter that's circling South Austin... Ah good times...

If it sounds good, it is good. Silicon FF works better for a lot of people than Germanium transistors. It's a simple and old circuit that still sounds good. If the FF isn't over-the top enough for you (and it isn't very by modern sensibilities) try it with other boost/overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedals both before and after until you get your sound. You'd be surprised with some stuff you might have on hand.

And if anything is going to wash out in the mix it's the Big Muff Pi.
