They are different... I opened both and the big custom one was made by Julie and looks smoother and more fem with smaller caps and matching blue resistors... The little one is a scrappy Tom Dal with bigger green caps and mismatched resistors... I like the difference it's just some kinda crazy Fuzzhugger man woman yin yang duality thing...

Good question!! I can only speak from my experience, and it can get really high gain and overdriven...which is why I recommend hum-canceling (I at least want people prepared for the gain & potential noise!). I use two p-90 singles together for hum-canceling operation.

There should be a bunch of people who can chime in on this one.

I've used my Arc Flash with a Tele, it's definitely not unbearable. In fact, I think the AF sounds best through single coils!

By the way Tom, the other night I used my AF w/ tone control you built me way back when through my bass rig. Jazz bass into a big ass Ampeg head into a BIGGER ASSER 8x10. Holy shit. It was amazing. Straight up brutal destruction in the best way.

I'm gonna toss in here and say that I loved the sound of the Arc Flash with my P-90s that were not hum-canceling. I'm a bigger fan of the Algal Bloom, but the Arc Flash has so much versatility. I didn't get a whole lot of noise with it at all... I have way noisier pedals like the Merkin and such, and the Arc Flash, at least for me, sounded really gritty and thick without any noisy interference.

My first fuzzhugger was AB-synth #20. it's like pink and psychedlic and stuff. It's currently used by my brother for riffz. My second is Bacon Arc Flash #1 from Heartben himself. Right before i went into the studio i had Tom mod it by adding a Hi-cut freq knob. You think the original Arc Flash is versitile, you need to try that puppy out.

definitely a staple on my board.

:]
I've got a fuzzbox and i'm not afraid to use it

before i had an ab i almost bought a used one. i sent tom an email asking if he could put a clip toggle in there for me and he told me that i might want to get a new one as he had tweaked the ciruit for more range, less noise and it would be more stable with tonez... the one i almost bought was built in early 09 and i had this discussion with tom in may of 10... :idk:

I tweaked the circuit for better control sweeps, switched a capacitor type...but nothing major.

 It's probably more a difference of when they were built, than a difference of gender. ;)

Depends on the parts available at the time, and just our progression in building. Though Julie does tend to have a "cuter" building style. But now, with the new PCBs, it's much harder to tell who built what. Though Julie and I can still tell.

my first is the AB synth, then the AB synth dream, next is going to be a custom pedal, still waiting for Tom to respond to my email. For me, fuzzhugger makes the best fuzz boxes that I feel sorry for other people who have never tried any fuzzhugger.

Got my first Fuzzhugger today, an AB-Synth from a trade with theactionindex. Only had about twenty minutes to play with it so far, but it was nothing but searing, face melting fun thus far. Especially the oscillation, both my girlfriend and my kitten both absolutely hated it, which to me is the ultimate thumbs-up that Tom is doing things spot on.

I got a used AB Synth a couple of weeks ago. I love it, it really changes the way I solo when it's on. It had a bad switch on it and Tom helped me out. What a great guy. Thanks Tom. You got a fan and a customer too.
I just blew my $$ on a Jam Man looper pedal but the next pedal will be a Phantom Arcade.
