I totally agree that many a foul band has gotten by on gimmickry as opposed to musicianship or song writing skills. Still though, I've seen a handful of amazing live bands that partake in said gimmicks and still fuckin' rock, no lameness to be found. Here's a couple more:

Oh, I was just referring to the "Good bands don't need gimmicks" statement, I completely agree with your Kiss comment, well said.

I avoided this thread just based on principle, but now that I have read it I know how AWESOME it is.

Nothing wrong with visual gimmicks. It's entertainment god dammit, eye candy is a part of that.

It's like saying you don't need a chick with nice boobs to fall in love, which is true. But if she does have nice boobs IT MAKES LIFE BETTER.

Yuuuup. It's like you want people who saw you play to say, "Hey, you remember that band that wore boxing gloves and ski goggles?" "Yeah" "They were pretty good."

as opposed to: "Hey, remember that one band that play after that band, but before the other one?" "Uh, no" "Oh, well they were pretty good."

Now, I just need to figure out a way to play guitar with boxing gloves on. Then, Strong Bad and The Population Tire will be ready to rock.

Yea, that thread title was a little tongue in cheek, I figured people would be like "band and fashion in same sentence?!?!, Fuck that!" Excellent analogy with the boobs and love, couldn't have said it better myself.

 Good Point!! When I originally saw The Locust, they rocked the goggles. The second time, they had all white outfits (The Larval Stage) and have since blossomed to their green and grey molted outfits, like a lesson in biology and a live show every time you see them.

Here's another I can't believe I forgot:

Buckethead
