Because people just join for teh giveaways, look and you shall see.
We all collectively signed up at HC to participate in their giveaway. It would be incredibly hypocrite to not accept the same over here.
Besides it's Tom and the builders' giveaway. If they post it on facebook etc. then they want to share it with more people than just the ILF regulars and they can.....because it's their giveaway. We all want to win but we have to accept other people want to as well.
Besides adding a post limit might have some people spam up the place so they can join.
^I agree on the hypocrisy

, the builders best interest and avoiding the spam-baked-beans-spam. We do that far enough on our own

And You know... giveaways on open forums just are not exclusive

and if it attracts new guys that's as good reason as any to join in the

caravan, right? Besides, I think the fewer the restrictions and rules the better it is, calls for genuine social networking.
I believe anybody who has signed in a forum for a giveaway has come from another forum already. People browse around and discuss to find it where they feel good. And if some new guys don't like it in here after the giveaway? Well it's better for both them and us they don't stick around hating it it here. IF they return always for just the giveaways, well, at least it proves ILF's got the best giveaways

Plus it cut down some spam. If they do stay and they learn to love the fuzzy properties here, all the better!
B/S/T and the Secret Santa might be the only thing that actually benefit from post limits and I'm not all certain about that either.

The common sense Caveat Emptor approach, advocating the good standing of fellow forumites and the mutual suspension of distrust seems to work fine IMHO.
