Order JJs from www.eurotubes.com they are the best quality to price ratio I've found. Unless you can find some NOS tubes somewhere...

Aren't Ruby tubes simply rebranded tubes from other companies?

I think they're Chinese knockoffs or something of the sort.

The guitar guy at a local music store special ordered a JJ 12AX7 for me. They may have gained one regular customer today. I'll let you know how it sounds later this week/next week when I get it.

Rubys are Chinese.

The old 6L6 STR sounded great in Fenders, but the preamp tubes don’t sound all that good.

I did not care for the Rubys that came with my Laney at all. JJs have a nice twinkly top end, but can be kind of brittle and didn't work for the way i play. E-H are cherry-picked Sovteks, as are the Russian-made Groove Tubes IIRC; IMO they sound a little better than bog-standard Sovteks, but i don't particularly like the whole Sovtek group of 12AX7s, which seem cardboardy and one-dimensional to me. decent Sovteks are acceptable, though.

Sound wise I’d say JJs in Voxs and Marshals, TAD in Fenders and Ampegs.
JJ’s work well in some Messas, sound too brittle in others

Tads are reproductions of black plate RCAs nice smooth top end and sweet bottom.

We all like sweet bottoms right?
