Strap Locks, Yay or Nay?

I just checked my guitar, I have Dunlop Straplocks. And they're honestly great.

I use Dunlop too, haven't tried any other brands but I've never had a problem with them.

I have two vintage-ish basses I use regularly with lots of moving around and jumping and ridiculousness. I don't use straplocks and I always get condescended to by other people who move around much much less.

That's fucking great! I just saw an opening band at a local show 2 nights ago, same thing happened to the guitar player right in the beginning of the first song. His guitar flew straight into the poor, unsuspecting drummer and headstock cracked right off. That was the set, about 20 seconds and down a guitar and drummer.

Dude was just looking at his guitar in shock, a really nice early 70's LP Custom, heavy as all hell, not the best choice for guitar swingin'!

Just wondering if those of you who play live on a regular basis are using strap locks and if so, what brand? My guitars are all equipped with oversize strap buttons which do a great job as long as your not slinging your guitar around like a maniac or spending more time on acrobatics than the song you're playing.

I used to use Schaller but had one fail so I'm a bit turned off by the locks. I actually had the nut on the strap piece loosen up once and off came my guitar. Maybe I should have used some lock-tight when installing that portion. That was a couple years back but that paranoia is hard to shake after having a guitar almost smash onto the ground, find myself checking and re-checking my strap pretty obsessively.

Schaller strap locks have done for me, ever since the early '90s. Just check regularly (like, when changing the strings) and if need, tighten the damn things and make sure the U-part keeps to it's position. One particular set caused me, too, some trouble (though not after ten years of service) with tendency to loosen down and turn the wrong way all by them self. Luckily, the bass never got actually damaged. Didn't dare to swing it, though

Once You're up to it, You might also want to move the strap buttons from the tip of the horn to the BACK of the horn, to make it hang in the slot better balanced. The tip of the horn has never made sense to me anyhow, no sense what so ever!

My roommate did that with a les paul when he was 15 or so. Was able to fix it though. I straight up had a guitar strap break one time when I spun my bass. Luckily I was outside and the headstock went right into the soft grass.

And this is why i will not be doing guitar spins even though i have straplocks , that and they are cheesy.

That singer is almost worse than the guitar spin, just horrifying!
