I'm pretty sure I just landed the sweetest job.

A friend of mine who was a General Manager at a local guitar chain quit.
He's opening his own Boutique guitar shop.

His goal: Consignment and Boutique Pedals.

All vintage gear for consignment. In house repairs/setups. Selling tubes.
Small, but dedicated and knowledgeable shop.

I'd be helping him out in opening it up.

Now... to quit Best Buy... or to NOT quit Best Buy...

Buy and Flip M13s for constant profit using employee discount.
Use said profit to expand shop.
Drown world in sludgy fuzz.

Also: Line6 Spiders will not be sold at the shop. At all.

He also refuses to sell any Line6 or Boss Effects.

Only vintage boss effects.

No EHX, either.

Also: Best Buy looks at everything I buy. If I buy 3 M13s, they'd fire me on the spot.

Until the Boutique Shop shows itself to be a sustainable business, keep the Best Buy job.

We have a consignment place in town here that originally catered to just vintage and boutique items. After two months, they took in everything they could, just to stay afloat. They're doing okay now, but it's still just the one guy. Hope yours has much better luck.

Big corporations lay off all the time so job security at Best Buy is an illusion. If you don't help your friend out when he starts up, he'll probably find someone else who will and he won't need you. If his shop tanks, you can get another crappy big-box retail job.

Meh. It's not as bad as you think. Our Best Buy is one of the highest rated Best Buys for customer feedback. And, we don't have that whole "Get this protection plan or I won't sell this to you" attitude that others do. We can pretty much do what we want how we want.

And, I work in every department. So, things really don't get boring.













I can't wait to quit.
