A 2x12 would be ridiculous in a college dorm. A typical college dorm room is tiny with really hard concrete or plaster walls. I had a Pathfinder 10 in my room and that drew plenty of complaints. And yes, that is a solid state 10 watt amp with a 6 inch speaker. If your college has some sort of practice or performance space that is larger and can fit a band I could see bringing a 2x12, but yeah, that bassman 10 would've been absolutely crazy for a dorm room. This obviously varies from college to college, but expect visits from your RA no matter what kind of amp you bring.
