Autechre Juno Reactor Hybrid Plaid Chemical Brothers (only up to Come With Us, everything after sucks) Lo-Fidelity All Stars (they KICK ASS live) Daft Punk Zircon
I saw Holy fuck in august last year, they were awesome, pretty electronic:
Even more electronica is Fuck Buttons which I also like, but unfortunately haven't seen them live yet:
My favourite electronica bands are as under:- 1. Handshakes and Highfives. 2. PlayRadioPlay. 3. Kill Paradise. 4. Hurry! Lets Go. 5. The Dance Pulse Agency.
at the top of the list of all time favs, the crystal method I had that same lords of acid cd growing up. its really hard to name 3 bands without naming 300 bands
I really feel like I'm missing out by not listening to much electronic stuff...I have tried to get some ideas from this thread, but it's all a little overwhelming... Any advice as far as a 'primer' in electronica? I realize electronica is such a broad genre, it could be tough to try to name a good introduction into it...
I've stayed off this thread cause "Electronica" is a term they tried to force on America in the 90's as a way to sell "Techno" music to grunge kids... I worked in a music store at the time so to me it means Moby, Prodigy, Crystal Meth, Fat Boy Slim etc... I love music made with and from electronics but genres in this world are weird... What kind of stuff do you usually like? There is hard, soft, dancey, chill-out, spacey, lo-fi, dj oriented, blah blah blah kinds of electronic music... I like Klaus Schultz and Tangerine Dream as much as I like Air or Roni Size or Skream or Onehotrix Point Never or Pole or Squarepusher... Just all kinds of stuff to get into... We're here to help... Holla, I got tons... Check out the Ninja Tune Label for a good primer on the out there stuff and go from there...

See? this is what I mean! It's just such a broad category I may PM you to discuss this further, if that's ok?

nah dont do it in PM's. we would love to ketch some new bands from the discussion. and I agree that electronica is just a made up term that doesn't really define a genre. crystal method is definitely breakbeat but almost big beat. fatboy slim defined his big beat genre. chill out is a made up term to sell experimental ambient and trance breaks to raver trance/house kids. they marketed it as something you would listen to driving home from a rave or coming down rolling in your house. it was a kind of "here you've been doing x all night, buy this cd it will make you feel better"
