Keep your marriage, I'm not having it...

Post by the raytownian »

DISCLAIMER: To all married couples, "MPTY"... This is for us young turks what have nothing to lose when it comes to marriage. I support marriage for all individuals, afterall! but this is a protest against the concept of the "Civil Union":

I was never going to get married anyways (like I'd have an opportunity if I even wanted to), but I think heterosexual couples who recognize this issue should intentionally get "Civil Unioned" just to protest this second-classing, anti-same-sex marriage, inequality bullshit. Keep your fucking sacred, puritain "MARRIAGE"...

I know it won't mean shit, but if enough people have a Civil Union, then maybe others will realise they AREN'T the fucking same thing (Again, it's that "separate but equal" BS applied to same-sex individuals-- "we'll throw you half a bone if it might make you shut up"... Religion shouldn't be a factor here, fucking god dammit! There is no other valid defense against it!!!)

I encourage all of you who feel as I do to do this... If for no other reason then to prove a point to your family and the rest of America that IT'S NOT THE SAME. (I'm sure anyone with religious relatives like me would think it a shame that I was never married when I could've been, afterall)...

Seriously, do this as a protest... If nothing else, maybe it can get people you disagree with thinking about this at a family level... I'm sure your Christ-loving Aunt Sally wouldn't consider a CU the same thing as being "married"... And maybe it can grow from there... I doubt it, but I still like the idea...

Hahaha! I'ma hit up sum gurlz on myspace and see if they will go down to the courthouse w/ me. For real-real... I'm sure no-one will, but it's worth a shot.

---
Okay, so I don't know the laws regarding whether or not "Civil Unions" are available to heterosexuals in all states... but if they are, I'm fucking doing it with the first gal who agrees to it!

it's pretty incredible, because (at least in my state) you have to fill out paperwork and get a marriage license before you can have a ceremony anyway. as far as i can tell that's really no different from having a 'civil union' and then doing whatever ceremony your heart (or church) desires. i just wish more people (and the law) saw it that way.

If civil unions aren't available for heterosexual couples, you guys should protest for them!

Cool idea, BTW. A bit extreme, maybe, but I'm sure Civil Unions are as disposable as the average American Marriage.

Shucks, I'm glad people are being as receptive as they have been... I was pretty worried someone would bite my head off over this (It is a little rash/extreme, haha)... But they are disposable, worthless, second-rate "marriages" in most people's eyes I think... And if people (hetero/homosexual alike) are willing to "reclaim" it, that'd be better than nothing at all. (Again, this is in no way meant to guilt-trip or insult married individuals past, present, or future!)

No myspace messages yet, haha... :idk:

that's absolutely right - for true separation of church and state we'd have to give the same rights to civil unions and no rights to marriages. i support that.

my personal opinion is that marriage should be entirely de-governmentalized (is that a word) and it should all be left up to your particular religous sect (or lack thereof)

problem is so much in the government has benifits (or lack of benefits) for being 'legally wed'....

but if there was some way to truly seperate church and state and keep the government from controlling who marries who, i think it would appease both super conservatives to super liberals all across the spectrum

unless im mistaken

I don't really understand the initial post. Devi's two pictures make sense to me though. :thumb:

I support gay marriage, its one of the main reasons my Catholic School upbringing couldn't sway me completely to their side. Jesus said love your neighbor as yourself, and treat them the way you like to be treated. There was no fine print that said "except gays." Therefore I say get married or create your own way of declaring unconditional love as a community.
