High gain distortion/overdrive (raw, in your face)

Post by sylnau »

What is your choice for a very high gain raw (in your face) distortion/overdrive pedal?
Not the metal (scoop) or 80’ hard rock (mid hump) type of thing… more raw in your face punchy crunchy and lots of gain.

I just run my signal through the questionably harvested heart of an orphan.

...with silicon transistors of course.

I like a Rat or Shredmaster for that kind of sound.

Believe it or not, the Lovepedal Kalamazoo.
It's great because it's got a lot of note definition.
I always get compliments about my sound when I use and people think it's an amp's distortion.

I'd say Visual Sound Jekyll&Hyde is great for that. I had the second version, not the new one, didn't really like the TS side (only for stacking with the distortion for leads), but the distortion was GREAT :)

The Retro-Sonic Distortion look like a good version of the Rat.

I run my OCD with the switch on LP into my 3 knob Singing Tree :joy:

It's beefy but really raw and grainy without being harsh.

I prefer my high gain to come from the amp. Nothing in pedal form really emulates that sound well IMHO
