Holy Stain / Reverb help

Post by Hybrid »

At my local guitar shop there is a Holy Stain for $70. I was wondering what the general take around here was on it. It doesn't seem like a bad price, but you do get what you pay for, it's EHX.

It does sound better than a holy grail. It's a longer reverb, and less saturation. Should I snatch it up?

Or, do I suck it up and wait it out until I find an RV-3?

What other options are there for a good used reverb with a long reverb? It's for post rock. Preferably under $150

I didn't like the sound of the reverb personally but if you think it sounds right for you, then otherwise its not a bad pedal if very quirky

Wow, I have both an RV-3 and a Holy Stain and I have to say, for shoegazey washes I much prefer the Holy Stain. It just seems a little more lush sounding. I kind of find the RV-3 a little dark and grainy sounding. I have a Digiverb, Holy Stain, and an RV-3 and the RV-3 was the one that was looking like it was gonna get kicked off my board. Had no idea until this week that it was some sort of holy grail pedal!

Yeah, it's a holy grail, big muff, overdrive, tremolo and pitch shift. I guess I'm going with the holy stain! What a great name...

The Holy Stain is great fun if you have a feedback loop to put it in and an expression pedal to control the pitch shift.
The reverb is fine. The fuzz is crap. The tremolo's fine.
The expression control makes it worth it.

The Holy Stain has so much going on, and so much potential for weirdness, it is worth $70 without a doubt. I love mine, but want to take it off my board so I can use it in a more hands-on, knob-tweaking kind of way for my noise side project.

I was at work before the guitar shop opened, and got out after it closed. And sane thing tomorrow... Might have to take a break.

A friend of mine that worked there tried to get me to not buy it...
I told him I'd be back in the morning to buy it.

He convinced another customer to buy it...

At least there are enough pointy objects around to shove up his ... so you can return the favor.

Well, another guy that works there (a real friend of mine) is letting me use his employee discount. So it's $80 new.

I'm thinking about passing though, and just buying a M13?

I work at Best Buy, so I get a pretty nice discount on them.
