jakehooker wrote:My first FuzzHugger order was a Wolf Computer. Not sure if that counts, being a Mellowtone design. Then I got the Bacon Arc Flash, Phantom Octave (later got another Phantom Octave circuit to build into my bass, which was an absurdly good idea), and the world's only AlgRoar (Algal Bloom + Velcroar, also boobs in a stompbox!). Actually, dammit, I need to collect from some people who owe me so I can get Tom to build me a second AlgRoar, whose surname suggesting mighty wonder is yet to be determined. I'm thinking "AlgRoar II: Viking from the Mountains of Madness" or "AlgRoar II: Fuzz of Eldritch Proportions". I'll probably settle on "AlgRoar II: The Search for Curly's Gold".

AlgRoar II: excelsior!!! :!!!:

btw i am being totally cereal!!! ;)

My first FHfx was Algal Bloom #2. I still have it and use it a lot!

Mine's AB-Synth #23, a custom XL version I got from Bigchiefbc. I love it.

First one was the Chalice after a couple of weeks of pestering Tom with many questions. From there I added an Arc Flash and Algal Bloom.

sooo I'm thinking about getting an Algal Bloom or an Arc Flash Oscillator...can anyone comment on the difference between the fuzzes on these?

I have an EQD Dirt Transmitter and I love it but I need something to compliment it that will give me crunchiness and be especially nasty with single note solos up in the higher registers...

Hmm. It didn't post the first time, so I'll try again. I had lusted after an Algal Bloom for a while, decided to go for it, and it came in the mail the other day. Incredible pedal. Love love love.

:!!!: some one about 20 miles from me!!! :joy:

i have never played a dirt transmitter but i love me some arc flash and algal bloom. many will call the arc flash "the rat killer". it can go from nice thick od to ripping crunch distortion. it is sorta fuzzy too. the algal bloom is FUZZ!!! there are sepeate gain and fuzz knobs so you can dial in so many tones! you can get some nice low gain high fuzz, low fuzz high gain, well you get the idea.

I just got my second Algal Bloom and they kinda sound different... One's small and one's big... Is there any difference other than the small one being mailed around the world ?

before i had an ab i almost bought a used one. i sent tom an email asking if he could put a clip toggle in there for me and he told me that i might want to get a new one as he had tweaked the ciruit for more range, less noise and it would be more stable with tonez... the one i almost bought was built in early 09 and i had this discussion with tom in may of 10... :idk:

when were they built?

i read on the fh website that the arc flash is recommended for single coils with hum-canceling...is it like unbearably noisy with non-canceling pickups?

Thanks so much, everyone!!! This thread makes me happy. :joy:

Good question!! I can only speak from my experience, and it can get really high gain and overdriven...which is why I recommend hum-canceling (I at least want people prepared for the gain & potential noise!). I use two p-90 singles together for hum-canceling operation.

There should be a bunch of people who can chime in on this one.
