Re: INFANEM HarmonySynth vs Snazzy MiniArk - Schumann PLL'es
I'm reading along too.
It seems to be fairly complicated to get this to work. How about embracing the glitch? Is it usable at all?
Have you tried using a compressor?

Hey Dorf - just curious, how far up the neck are you playing? I definitely noticed it not tracking super well as I got into higher pitched notes when playing scales and stuff.

It is more complicated than I had expected. I am embracing the glitch. I am sure it can be used musically especially for atmospherics in conjunction with the Strymon. I am kicking myself for selling off my only compressor last week (BBE OPTO STOMP - - - I sold it for $30!?!?!?! - now I wish I still had it). I will need to acquire another one and try it out. Could very well be the answer.

I've found it won't track at all on the upper frets on unwound strings. Doesn't seem to track as well in general on the unwound strings. Tracks pretty well on the higher frets on the low e and a strings. I also find certain spots that don't track well even though all the notes around that area track well. I have also found that I need to hit the string with the pick hard and mute immediately.

grabbed the pdf and paid the snazzy mini ark today. so it will be here next week and then i can do a little bit of comparision with the infanem ahs (with which i'm long time not finished yet).
I've got a WMD Super Fatman with CV in that I have coming in the mail (Should arrive today I hope). I want to try that with cv from the Snazzy. The Super Fatman should really broaden the possibilities that the Mini-Ark has.

Ah yeah, that makes sense. Strong attack and crisp note envelopes would be easier to track for sure. I'm curious to try this with some compression now. Are you thinking compressor before Mini Ark? Yeah, right?

I am figuring the compressor would need to be before the Ark to benefit the tracking.

Makes sense. I wonder if it would do much to compress / suppress stray noisy bits if you rocked it after. Compressors are kind of a mystery to me still though. Hahahhaa.

Yeah I suppose it could help them to blend in with the main part of the note being produced.

speaking of tightening the attack. yes, may be a possibe solution. I'n now totally cusious how it react with my playing

Well I am finding that I cannot "play" the Mini-Ark the same way I would my guitar in other circumstances.

I'm thinking of picking up a TC Electronic Nova Dynamics. Lots of tweaking can be done to the compressor to optimize it for tracking....it has a noise gate...wouldn't normally want one of these in my signal path but it should clean up the pure signal coming from the guitar..... Nova Dynamics is digital but there will be no trace of the original signal in the tracked signal so it shouldn't deteriorate the sound at all.
Plus the Nova Dynamics pedals can be acquired pretty cheap used.

How are you liking that Midwesterner by the way? So sexy that thing.

I don't even think about other guitars any more! Its just me and my Midwesterner.

Was able to try out the Snazz with the compressor in my Nova System and it really benefitted the tracking. I felt like a member of Sun Ra's Arkestra composing paens to the moons of Jupiter. Kosmik tone poems for the Gods. Epic space jams with a sitarist on one side of me and African talking drums on the other. Did Sun Ra, Fela, Ravi Shankar, and Miles Davis ever jam? If they did I was there with my Prairiewood and my Mini Ark.
My bliss was broken when Had to go off to do my brutal crossfit workout. A different kind of satisfaction.
