The atr was around $1000au with about 60 very lightly used tapes from a studio that closed down. The 3340 was a trade about 10 years ago, I forget what for. To be honest, I tend to use the 3340 alot more at the moment - easier all round. But when I record other bands the ATR gets used more often.

I usually go direct in from my English Muff'n, which controls volume and EQ levels. Drums in fruity loops. Recording Program Adobe Audition 3.0. However now I'm using my 4 track mixer so I can blend two effects together and other cool stuff.

Yea..the problem is, my recording interface doesn't accept stereo speakers ...it's headphones only (specifically designed for laptop/mobile mixing I guess)

I am really interested in picking up that M-audio fast track, even my girlfriend has suggested that I get something in at least the 200 dollar range.
How easy is it too use and pick up ?
Using a Mac, it was 100% plug & play. I didn't like using the USB out, though - my recording computer's getting old, and there was enough latency to throw me off. So now I just use the USB to power the Fast Track, and an audio out for the signal. I like the sound, and it's pretty easy to manage levels. I got the original recommendation from Jdavyd, who's much better with recording facts & figures than I am.
As for easy to pick up, Sweetwater's got them listed for $199 (how convenient!), but I've seen other places online advertising prices as low as $160.
Recently began trying to build my own rig so far I've got this going:
RME Fireface 800 Logic 9 SM57 and Sennheiser 421 for mics Golden Age Project 73 Preamp (also working on getting a couple channels of preamps racked off of a yamaha pm-1000 board)
Hoping to eventually get everything to record a full band, right now its mostly bass guitar and vox.

Don't want to derail the thread, but you could always try hacking the stereo jack of the headphones into 2 larger jacks for the powered monitors (or just use the headphone stereo jack to a line in on a stereo). Also, always check your mixes on other friends' stereos (but get them to comment on mixes first - even non-audiophiles).

I feel like a dunce for not mentioning this part...my last few mixes were double-checked by burning the project to a CD and listening to it on my stereo.

Actually no. I just have a Griffin 1/4" to 1/8" instrument cable that I use. Then from there, I only add some eq'ing to it to beef it up a little. Other than that, I just make sure that it doesn't clip.

I've done this. You've just got to mess with the input volume and use a noise gate.
