The bad: Unity gain (with germanium diodes) is about 2 o'clock on the volume dial. Still plenty of volume boost above 2 o clock. The good: sweet sweet warm lively fuzz.

Mine just came in today, can't wait to try it out at rehearsal tomorrow. The other guitar player and bassist in my band both have them, so the Pharaoh is our official fuzz (Fuzz of the Fuzz!!) Thanks for the quick shipment Mark - you rock my brother!

Posted this on Pedalboard thread but figured it's even more appropriate here. Just received my Pharaoh and here's initial thoughts and feelings:

The Pharaoh definitely reigns supreme! I've had the pleasure of playing it loudly all day and it sounds super badass! I love how wide open this thing sounds, just sings with pure dynamic heaviness and awesome touch sensitivity. None of the nasal, choking, piercing sounds a lot of fuzzes produce (which some love, just not my preference), the Pharaoh just blooms out of my speakers.

The tone controls make it really versatile, but in all honesty, when I first plugged it in, tones were at 12o'clock, adjusted fuzz and volume, high gain setting and diodes in and just zoned out playing it for over an hour! When I first switched it on, I noticed it was quiet as a mouse, until I hit a note, fuzz heaven. Gets along well with other pedals also!

I get amazing low gain, overdrive style tones, punchy distortion, and all out thick, SMOOTH, juicy fuzz with low end fully in tact, just amazing. I hate when fuzz pedals take over your guitar and amp tone and impart all highs and mids. The Pharaoh is definitely not guilty of this, just lets your guitar breathe through it while adding a healthy dose of heaviness. Worked great with SC and HB guitars and cleans up great with guitar volume adjustments. Oh yea, it looks amazing as well, super cool cosmetic design! And the price is superb, a big thanks to Mark!

What a great review!

I need to get a couple bass clips together for Mark this week. That description is exactly why I feel this pedal excels as a bass fuzz too. :thumb:

I saw this picture of Hendrix, all he used was a wah.... And not even the Jim Dunlop Jimi Hedrix wah, just some old thing.....
Jimi didn't realise the horrible tone suck we had to listen to every time he used that wah.

Diodes out is where it's at for me. Open, organic fuzz, without that blanket of muffle, that other pedals have..sounds like my amp..my amp pissed off.

Diodes out is very awesome, totally different flavor. Took me awhile to make it that far, the Pharaoh was truly plug and play for me. I have to fiddle with most pedals to discover tones but not this time. So many options with this pedal, really covers a lot of ground for a fuzz!

Agreed, I'm sure the Pharaoh would excel with bass, something many fuzz pedals fail to do.

My bassist uses one, sounds bad ass.

I just got to spend about an hour with mine tonight -- I usually don't say this, but my ears really hurt, took a beating tonight. I ran it through an already raging Sunn most of the time. I haven't figured out all of the controls yet, but I dialed in some cool settings. I then bi-amped and played the Orange also and it sounded awesome. Then just went to the Orange to close out the night. Makes the Orange sound really mean and pissed off! I'll read about the controls more - I don't think I have it dialed in to my satisfaction yet, but its close!

Mark, can you point me to where I can get the info on what the controls do (the top toggle), I got the V/F and bottom toggle already set.
