ebay problem...
ok, so I sold my old strat pups on ebay last week, the buyer now claims that the package had been opened and one of the pups is missing.. He didn't want insurance on it and the package was sealed securely when I sent it out. It sounds like to me this is an issue between him and USPS, I do feel for the guy on one hand, but on the other he got 3 US strat pups for 30 bucks which in my opinion is a steal for even 2 of them. And there are just too many scammers pulling the whole "I didn't get the package so I want my money back" , leaving them with both the item and your money. am I wrong for thinking that this is something between him and USPS?

Re: ebay problem...
when i worked in the whse of a major music retailer (who is generally evil), i dealt with all of the shipping issues that would come up.
#1- i find it hard to believe that only one of three were missing. no one opened it, took one, and left the other two. when UPS would destroy a box or the box disintegrates, they would re-package it and were very careful to ensure all contents got to its final spot. and the driver would always let us know. trust me, i know UPS trashed lots of stuff but not for fun, usually it was bad packing to begin with.
#2- if there was a damage or a missing part, the recipient needs to file a claim for it. i know the USPS as well as UPS says that. thats the person who lost money by the issue, thats who will get money back if the claim goes through.
#3- was there and signature required or a tracking number? if NO then it sounds like your buyer is trying to pull one over on an unregulated shipment.
i never want to be a jerk in these instances, but if they refused insurance, fuck 'em. that's why you get it...
life is unfair- tell them to consider this a learning experience.

Re: ebay problem...
Ok, thats pretty much what the 2 friends I had talked to had sayed. He sent 2 messages yesterday(the day it arrived I guess) and 1 today saying "this is the 2nd day in a row I have tried to contact you...." , I kinda felt like saying "this is the 2nd day in a row you could have lifted a finger to resolve this issue on your end at the post office..." . It would be different if the package wasn't sealed well and he lost all 3 of them, but he said the top corner was opened, which even if that where true, there is no way a pup would fall out because of the flaps on the package.....anyways.......Even if the 3rd one is missing, he still did damn good anyways.

This is an old thread, but I'll still say I agree. You owe this guy nothing, you have no responsibility to him in any way. Your end of the transaction was done when you put the package in the mail. Unless you there is evidence that you ripped him off, it's all between him and the Post Office.
