Mo' money, mo' prahblems, a this or that thread

Post by snipelfritz »

So, with Christmas over and a birthday just around the corner, I find my self sitting on a windfall of roughly 500USD. I originally wanted to use this money for a Epiphone Thunderbird and a bass amp, but realized a $150 amp wouldn't be worthwhile and I'd rather put that money towards guitar gear and possibly an EVO. I went looking for a decent guitar that could give me some contrast to the juicy, wolfy tones of my semi-hollow body Schecter, and I found Fender's Blacktop series Jazzmaster. This guitar seems like it'd be the jizz for playing indie/noise rock like I want to, and it's only $420 at nstuffmusic.

Then, while idly surfing Musiciansfriend, I discovered Mr. Aen's Dwarfcraft pedals. Needless to say, my prostate dropped through the bottom of my solid oak desk chair. I've been looking for the Hax for years and I didn't even know it. Unfortunately, I don't have an open power adapter on my pedal board and it would either require me to plug/unplug my tuner constantly or just remove something from the line-up(but that's not a huge concern).

I still have a week and a half before the rest of this loose cash falls into place, so I figure I'll ask what you'd do were you in my shoes:
-Order Fender Blacktop Jazzmaster for $420(w/ free set up)
-Get A Dwarfcraft Hax for $180, and save the other ~$250 for smartphone/cheap-ass guitar/weed & booze

EDIT: I should say that any insight on either of these products would be greatly appreciated.

Blacktop Jazzy for sure. I love mine. It's become my go-to guitar. I've used it on every humbucker demo on my site.

It also doesn't need anything changed in it. I thought I'd scrap the HB, bridge, and electronics, but they're fine, and the HB sounds great. :omg: :joy:

Go for it!

I'd get some pedals. The HAX looks cool as hell. I don't know what your current set up is though, so have no idea what you need. Personally I don't drink or smoke, so that's a no go for me. Gear is the way to go IMO or get a used Jazzman and some gear if possible.

Used is an option. You could probably get both the jazzmaster and a Hax pretty easily. I've seen used, like new BT's for around $300. :joy:

lol, what I spend the other money on if I get the HAX doesn't matter. I just wanted to know if people had opinions on the guitar or pedal, so keep the opinions/experiences coming.

Also, does anybody know of any ring modulators(or whatever you'd call it) similar to the HAX? Preferably cheaper. Or if the HAX is available cheaper anywhere other than Musiciansfriend?

I've got no experience with the HAX, but if you want a cheap ring mod I'd recommend Montreal Assembly. http://mtlasm.blogspot.com/p/ring-modulator.html
