Don't laugh. Death By Audio got off the ground through outside artwork alone.
Call me superficial but I like pedals that look good, same goes for guitars. it's not priority number one but I think it matters a little Why else would we get custom artwork on pedals?
Favorite Build: Hmm, Red Llama. First time I ever put an IC on eyelet...
Least Favorite Build: Either the guv'nor or machine. Guvnor just because it was on vero...Machine just likes to fight with me.
Favorite Platform: Eyelet by far.
Guilty DIY Pleasure: The end result of an eyelet board is like looking at a small handwired amp.
How Many Have You Built: Honestly couldn't tell you. Lots of fuzz/OD/Distortion, some delays, two choruses, some rehouses and mods, Bunch of a/b/y switches and momentary stuff for rack effects. Also, a lot of guitar wiring/refinishing endeavors.
Favorite Build: the boss ce-2 chorus with mods only because it was the first non dirt box I built and finding bbd's on the cheap is an adventure.
Least Favorite Build: dr boogie that I didn't read the BOM with enough detail and put a 1n4001 instead of a 1n4004, it screwed up the whole bias and I spent almost a week debugging before I found the mistake. I also hate doing mods because for me the reward is making something new not replacing crappy parts on a boss pedal.
Favorite Platform: pcb's with soldermask. I got really lazy and built a bunch of stuff on fabbed boards and lately I have been going back to vero and home etched boards and I had to clean up my act. I used to hate fabbed pcb's because they make rework really hard when they are plated through hole.
Guilty DIY Pleasure: breaking my friends hearts when I tell them their favorite boutique pedal is a tubescreamer.
How Many Have You Built: coming up on 100 pedals. red llamas, sho's, rangemasters, mosfet boosters, fuzz faces, big muffs, bazz fusses, fuzz factories, analog chorus, tremolos, blueboxes, scramblers, meatheads, ts9/ts808s, son of screamers, ocds, trotskys, klons, dh pitch shifter, etc.

You'll get there. If you haven't built a pedal at all yet, I'd highly recommend a BYOC kit. They are pricier than GGG, but the projects are far better thought out (in my opinion) and the documentation is far superior (in almost everyone's opinion).

yes there were lots of issues with there early pedals somewhat punk rock but they have cleaned there act up a little bit now ?

weird. as far as i know, the only difference between the two diodes is the voltage rating...
I know I was told that at the time, but for whatever reason it screwed up my dr boogie. it wasn't backwards either. I was just getting really unpredictable reaction on the bias trimpots, and it was oscillating like crazy.

I have nothing against a pedal that looks nice on the outside. But that can't be the *only* place where attention to detail is payed, or you end up with a nice looking pedal that breaks down or only half-ass works.

Yeah, they now use PCBs and the overall guts look a lot better. But they got away with total shit for at least a few years.
For example, below is a gut shot of their Harmonic Transformer. It cost $300. That's NOT $300 worth of quality. I've shit better pedal innards than that.
Dave Barber makes pedals that are rock solid, look great, sound great, and only cost about $130. That's how I like to spend my money; not on half-broken misbiased boxes of ass like what DBA built their following on.
Sorry, I'm a little bit biased on this issue.
